Well as some of you know decided to go for a trip due to bad luck with my now X girlfriend. Que here: "I said it before but if some of you have a 20-28y old hot, single friend, daughter PM me" It was a almost last minute decission with no real plan except want to pop in to see my folks in Poland. Trip started well, 4am ride to Folkstone and I decided to filter the only two cars I meet in London ..... Forgot about the bags...... No matter minicab drivers did not stop so guess they had no insurance. From there on it was nice and easy ride with another surprise in tow. Nice day at Folkstone (just moon still up): Was on the French side and on the move by 08:45. Due to weather forecast plan was m-way out of France and bit in Belgium. Get off just before Brussels for a stop In Brussels. Sadly missed Brussels as went In to longest tunel ever that was dunder the city. Cock is all I can say. Shortly after I discovered New surprise. Plenty of smoke In my mirrors, cock as hell again till I stopped and realised it was my bags that were on fire. My sleeping bag took brunt of the damage: Some idiot fitted the bags wrong way round so they were resting on exhaust…… Done a quick fix on side of the Road and off I went. No more M-way’s. Took some nice A and B type of Road. Maliny EU safe and booring as it turns out In that part of Europe. In Netherlands I seen that no moped riders hale to wear helmets and then I stumbled on this. Good spoot for a snickers as was going gremlin. After that moped along until I felt tired, had a look for a near enough and on router camping plance and went there. It was a nice German camp site, not many bikers maliny caravans but great beer and bratwurst sausages. Loads of lakes and cannals. Tent site was next to water so nice. Bit surreal as well as I fund out later when I was woken up by loads of gun shots. No did not start WW3 I hope someone was hunting….. When I first arrived I hale butli my mini tent up. My mug In the tent, god was it tiny and not water proof: When that was done went around, took few Picture.
While doing that I realised my on bike charger was not strong enough to charge my phone/gps so battery was at about 35%. As result sat down, used ipod to listen to music and take few more photos. Used the GPS to plan my escape next day and to switch it to static map mode (like paper map but on phone). Best Misteka by far as I realised next day. Few more morcing pics: I set off on day 2. Still dry, warm and his time no GPS. So much fun getting lost, looping for correct road, map reading, getting lost again and so on. Properly enjoyed it and as result fund some cracking road. From the morning I had only 1 dark cloud on the sky and the bastard was there half of my day. What happener is due to me getting lost I kept on escaping and riding back In to the same rain. As it was all mosty In forest I never knew till next corner. Still bucket of fun. Also what made it fun was there was plenty of road Works so loads of detours that are not marked all that well. That meant I got lost over and over again. It also meant I ended up doing some green laning on a monster. So much joy, I got the bike proper dirty, I fell off few times as well in to mud. All in name of fun. Before all that I did however stop for a bit of classy lunch that was abruptly interrupted by arrival of my friend the 1 dark cloud. Save me from getting wet or save food. Food won. After lunch set off again. Plenty of great roads till I stumbled on a gem. A magnificnet set of roads all concentrated around a big lake and few other smaller ones. Went around the main one 3 times. Recomend the road. I even stopped for a bit of Nutella time: The roads were around here, all twisty, all going up and down a hill, great quality as well plus low traffic. Got to love those valleys with lakes that retreating Glaciers left behind. Draw a circle on a map with a radius Got to my final destination for the day about 20:00. Had some great Polish food. Stumbled on a German gentleman with his 15y old son. They were touring on his BMW all the way from Moscow via most Russian states back to Germany. A trial tour as next year they are doign Africa for 3 months. Spot on mate. Departed next day about 09:30. Used some unused but magnificant roads for most of the day. All B type roads with good to average road surface plus few with horrible one’s will attach video when it is up. At the start of day I had 175 miles to where I wanted to have a brake. 2h later I had 179 miles left and done about 80 . Great roads About 13:00 it looked like it will start pissing it down and 5 min later it did. Got drenched in rain so strong I do not remember when was the last time I seen one like that. At one stage could not see past my front wheel and bow wave was up to my knees. 10 min in to that bike started getting sick, lost fornt cylinder but I found a small town and petrol station. Stopped there. Waited for rain to stop and bike to start. Picture of when rain was coming to an end: As I was living I forgot to pack my disc lock and left it on my tea tray. As bike currently is only working fine at high rpm high speed I gunned it not realising that. Few miles down the line in distance I can see blue lights flashing. Cock cock cock speed limit was 100 ….. kph I was doing abouth tha, maybe 120mph. Cock again. Thought keep on going maybe he will give up. However traffic built up he cought up with my, pulled along side and gave me my disc lock back. Thx officer. (Never said a word in Polish so guess I spooked him ). From there on roads got bit worse so jumped on a express way. Nice new road surface, thx EU. One lane each way, speed cameras taking photo from front so I opened it up. Road was mostly going via fields and forests so just stunning agian, fast sweeping bends, not as much traffic for some reason. Got me home. Took rest of Friday off as national holiday so all was shut anyhow. Saturday nipped out to see sailing ships parade: And some odd food I do not even know: Plan for Monday, get new plugs, new air filter and fix the hole in exhaust left by broken scottoiler part. See if bike improves. If not I am so in trouble as need toget back ……… Await further adventure details. Also my rear tyre is at an end
Nice write up. I admire you going so far on your own...big trips are great fun ! Nice one ! If you're ever in Germany, head for Garmish and anywhere within a days ride of it, stunning and the best roads ever !
Excellent story Lucas, I'm looking forward to the next installment. remind me to tell you my disastrous story of sleeping bag on fire in Pakistan next time I see you!
Well new plugs/filter did improve things but my 100+ speeds on shady road surfaces has taken toll on chain. It has stretched unevenly living part of chain in perfect tension, part well off. Makes bike rough at low speeds but besides that all ok. After discussion with a mechanic he said to just go with the chain and change it when I get home aka knacker this one completely. Chain looks good nick bar stretch and even that is not big so he was confident it will last few k miles. Let's hope so. Weather today was dry, warm and windy as fuck. Oh my neck hurts. Not fun at all yet still went for a bit of B roads and Polish sea side for some waffles. Cause I could: I have also discovered Poland is getting more and more motorcycle friendly, never seen dedicated one of those in any country: It says helmet hanger Currently in Magdeburg, plan was to go to Hannover as never been but 15 miles before Magdeburg (115 before hannover) rain just dropped all at ones. Still warm but went for a warmer hotel. On a side note most of road side hookers I seen are nasty, fat bitches. Not even one made me want to part with my cash...... Maybe tomorrow if I can find roads like this in Germany..... Or maybe Amsterdam?!!.....
Thanks for the write up Lucas, do keep us updated. Hope you manage to get your bike fixed, and find a new tyre before you add high speed motorway blow-out to your adventures. Sounds like you had a similar kind of trip to my WDW run this year, with the biking gods farting in my general direction. Nothing disastrous, but lots of minor irritants, and plenty of silver linings to the assorted clouds (breakdowns, dropped bike, but discovery of good museums, helpful locals, great roads and good food on the way).
Well I am in city centre of a town with population of 232000 in 2012. Plenty of people on the street......
one of my polish customers has offered me the keys to a house he owns by the coast over there. might take him up on it. nice one lucs.
Finm worth it in summer. I have today given up on a/b roads. Just do not feel like doing that. Mainly because of strong winds which make entire ride feel "wobbly". As I booked ferry to late assuming I will do off m-way fun I now find my self 300 miles away at 1230 and need to be at ferry at 1915. Will probably go to Dunkirk seeing it was mentioned in ww2. Something about British Great escape......
Not interesting today on way back. Run out of fuel, realised German Petrol stations are exactly 100 miles apart so if you take wrong Road you short. Invented a fun motorway game called find an idiot. Will explain rules later
