The clutch lever is solid and the fluid is a muddy grey. At least I nursed her home. Any guesses what they may find? I’m a fairly steady rider so she hasn’t been ragged. Thanks to Andy for advice so far.
How mechanically able are you? It’s easy enough to pull apart and check the various components. We’re you riding it when this happened or has she been stood for a while? Fluid definitely needs changing anyway if it’s that colour
I practically minded but always tend to leave the oily bits to someone else. I’m running her over later as I do like them properly looked after. If I made a schoolboy error, it could be more costly. We were out riding and the clutch just got stiffer and stiffer. It’s a slipper I believe but will know more later.
Clutch fluid always seem to go dirty looking.. I put a new slave, lines, reservoir and overhauled master on my 748 and the fluid look shitty after only a few months (1000 miles maybe). Lovely looking bike btw.
As it was working earlier then sounds like it's slave end and could be broken/jammed up clutch spider spring or pushrod. If you go back to it now and you can pull lever in now then something got very hot somewhere "down at the slave end".
If the clutch fluid is grey metallic (not the dark grey it usually gets) your clutch push rod could be spinning in the slave which may be linked to Chris' suggestion above. Take the slave off (only three screws) and look for black fluid leakage down there, the push rod should come out relatively easily.
I’ll report back tomorrow once I’ve figured out what is what. I’ve got a workshop manual, purely for show, so will look through this. It’s booked to be looked at next Saturday at my Ducati guru.
Gravel was less ‘laid’ and more ‘tipped’ by the sweeper!!! It’s chipping recovered by the sweeper when they tar and chip in the local roads. A score a load. Well, you did ask!!!
You might also want to check that the bearing hasn't self destructed and started to munch through the pushrod, as found on my 888.
Slave cylinder seal shot so far RickyX. I’ll update with photos as it’s still on the stand being stripped.
