My New Blog - Feedback Please?

  1. Hi folks.

It had seemingly been on my mind for a wee while but recently I found a write-up I did (for no special reason) back in 2008 when I went on a big bike tour to Europe. I also found myself enjoying the posts I was adding to this forum and the others I use and an idea developed into a possible project to start my own Blog / Webpage about this sort of stuff.

Nothing big, just a place to stick my thoughts and ideas. Then I noticed mattmccabebrown had a similar sort of webpage up and running so I got in touch with Matt and he directed me to a website builder / Blog site that I could use to get off the ground...

So I spent an evening getting some ideas onto it before finishing work for the holidays and then have use some of the little spare time I've had over the Christmas break so far to get to this point. I've got a few bits to tweak and one section I need to spend a fair bit of time on still to get it done but hopefully with that and the addition of some photos and links I will be at the point where I can then have the site "ticking over" with new information and posts as things happen.

I don't really know why I wanted to do this, but I've really enjoyed doing it so if nothing else I'm happy to have started it and will be happy to keep it up to date even if it's just for my own use.

    Here's the link Motorcycle Diary

I'd be delighted to know any feedback you folks may have.

Cheers, and All the Best for 2013.

  2. Don't know how the blog displays on your monitor, but on mine the text appears as tiny grey letters on a darker grey background in a hard-to-read font. Couldn't be bothered to read the text, the format kills it totally.

  3. Ah ok. Not heard that from anybody else so far. I'll see if I can fix that. Thanks for letting me know.

  4. Easy reading on my iPhone :)
    Navigation easy
    I like it

  5. Text as clear as you like on my phone, just read about the 848 and really enjoyed every word, will return when I have more time but very impressed for now, well done.

  6. Good simple layout with easy navigation.

But I don't like the white charaters on black backgroud either, it is just difficult to read.

Otherwise it looks a good start. Some nice pictures of Scotland, where the riding is brilliant IMHO

  7. That's odd I have black on white background.

  8. I have White background with black letters

  9. Top job. Good pictures, well written. It reminds me what I'm missing about motorbikes - bloody rain!

  10. On my pc screen its easy to read, grey letters on black background. If i had to be picky the font looks a tad smaller than the standard on here, maybe enlarge it a tiny bit??

  12. Was your brother pissed off with the blurry photo of him with Guy Martin whereas you got perfectly focused shots with Bruce Anstey and GM

  13. Cheers for all the comments.

It's light grey text on a black background on the desktop site and black text on white on the mobile site. This is one if the things I was wondering about. It might reverse it or make the text white so it's clearer. My main concern to date was getting the text on there and the structure I was looking for. Now I can start to make the presentation better.

Really appreciate the comments and everyone taking time to read it.

  14. It's funny, I laughed at that when I posted these on the site. I'd never noticed his one being blurry before, was only when I looked it out to upload it. Lol

  15. The only thing for me is the white/grey text on a black background, I cant read for more than a minute as it gives me a migrane, I avoid sites with this setup. Looks pretty good and a lot of info so keep it up, just change colours. Cheers.

  16. Its looking good Andy, glad you've asked for comments etc, I found this really helps with the fine tuning of things. I really liked what I saw, gave me ideas

  17. Thanks for all this again.

I'm going to try and get a chance to change the text format but can't get 5 minutes peace to do anything just now. I'm not sure how easy it is to change the background colour but I'll be able to change the font easily enough.

I was ok using the black background as I was worried a white background might be too bare looking. I'll see what I can do.

    Thanks for the input folks.

Happy New Year to you all!

  18. Changing fonts is really easy, just a few clicks. Just remember which one you started with :upyeah:

  19. Hi folks.

I've changed the font to make it clearer. I've gone for white on black background to get away from the grey option. I've also chosen a clearer font and made it a few points larger.

I experimented with a few other design / layout options but a lot of them leave a load of dead space or have a slight pattern behind the text which doesn't work too well. I'll stick with the black background but I'm going to try and make it a bit more colourful over time. Will see how I get on.

    Thanks for the feedback.
