My rocks and a hard place

  1. Currently riding an 848 and suffering from the ball crushing agony of the great front brakes. Recently put stomp grips on the tank but still find it difficult to put my weight through the tank (even with my lanky legs).

Considering rear sets to change the peg position to see if that helps, can recommend some sets or even knows if it helps?

  2. Don't brake so hard ..... surely !!!

  3. Stomp grips and taking a bit more weight through the arms during the braking phase helped me. I smashed my nuts on the tank 3mins after first riding it. I ordered the stomps that day

  4. Did you put the stomp grips where they recommend? I wish I'd put the thin strip on the black fairing panel beneath the tank.

I try not to take too much weight through my arms, but always an option.

Dibble, trust me when I say, I'm a big girl and not braking anywhere near as hard in fear of permanent injury!

  5. Sargent seat is padded differently so you're not sliding as much towards the tank. It should help a bit.

  6. A lot of the 848 challenge lads had the same problem using the standard seat. it slopes forward and promotes ball crush syndrome. Raising the front either through a different seat or padding out the original was the solution.

  7. BCS (Ball Crush Syndrome) counter measures that have worked for me include: suede seat (which tends to hold you in position more effectively), setting the brakes before hauling on them (a gentle initial squeeze to put a slight load on the forks and settle the bike, and giving you time to brace), moving to the rear of the seat hump before heavy braking or acceleration, weighting the pegs, gripping the tank with the knees and not sitting too upright once on the brakes...oh, and i also wear cycling leggings with a padded seat..this makes the motorcyce seat (916) less uncomfortable, makes donning/doffing leathers easier, makes moving on the bike more comfortable, protects the crown jewels.
That said, if you hit a nasty bump and get lifted from the seat, nothing, but NOTHING is gonna protect yer spuds when they squash back down on the tank...i try and take the hit with the legs, keeping them slightly bent like a race horse jockey..
back in the days of riding a ZXR750 with its notoriously hard/useless rear shock, i had a couple of big nut hits which almost made me crash and had me singing soprano for a month...

  8. New seat seems like the way forward, I don't remember sliding as much on my ZXR although the seat was like a sponge and could still give you a wet backside about a week after a light shower!

I struggle with getting a good grip on the tank with my knees, even with the stomp grips I still slide quite a bit. Tend to be on my toes on the pegs to get my knees up high enough to grip properly.

  9. I've put the thin grip strip on the under tank plastics. Works a treat.

  11. Same place as I mine but I find my knees naturally sit towards the bottom, I think the point of getting a strip across the fairing below the tank is a good shout.

  12. D you have the standard pegs on there?

  13. You could always add some foam padding at the back of the tank. Or get a bike with a suitably shaped saddle.

  14. Saying Swap the bike is like asking if I'd swap my kids, only if its for a better one!

    Seat change is an option.

  15. Velcro seat?

  17. There's always surgery for you to consider.........! It depends, I suppose just how much you love your 848.
