My St2 Project… Not Another Cafe Racer!

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Duke600, Jun 8, 2022.

  1. Hi all,

Some of you may remember my old man known as Duck944 on here and before that, back in the day, Marcoantonio on Ducatisti.

Anyway, dad passed away in 2016 and before he went, one of our last conversations was how one day we would build a ‘special’ based on the SSie format.

When he passed in ‘16, he owned a silver ST2. He loved it to bits. Not being my type of bike, I figured it would be a great basis to build (kind of) the bike we spoke of, but keep his bike as a nice personal touch.

It’s taken me until recently to get my head into it, I found it quite hard working on his bike, without him. But with a kick up the ass from a very handy neighbour and a rekindled love of Ducatis, we are getting there.

So, here it is thus far. With progress pics :) the first, the man himself with it as it was.

  3. There's a few little bits to finish up, the exhaust to have spring clips welded on, and top yoke re fitted. Then, it is time for testing and new front discs.

I've taken it out on road (it is road legal still) and it handles beautifully!

  6. 1098 fairing? Few bits look like desmo race bits

  7. Good eye!

yeah, 1098 fairings. The rear sets are race rearsets once fitted to my carby SS (that’s got new ones now), fuel cap and clip ons from my carby SS too!

  10. Great to to have a completed a project that looks good and handles well!

Are you getting decals for it to accentuate the lines & maybe give it a bit more edgyness?

Good job & very special since it was your Dads bike.

  11. Thank you mate, that means a lot!

  12. thank you!

I am thinking of decals yes, but completely undecides as to what to go for! it has to be a fine balance, as the front end is quite angular, but the back has sweeping rounded edges - thinking something like silver pinstriping and some Ducati lettering on the main panels for example

  13. I was fortunate to be able to build a few things with my son whilst he was living at home, the last bike was a RAD/ST2 (it is feature somewhere in Projects and Builds 'Lad and Dad Project') so I understand the attachment to your build.
Take your time and do it right.
I am no expert but if you need any advice on the ST2 drop me a message.

  14. That looks really nice, proportioned well & I'm sure your dad would love it too were he still around, although I'm sure he's watching from above.
Whatever colour scheme you choose could take it up to another level, so take your time when choosing, sometimes old colour combinations with modern twists can look very effective. Good luck with your final scheme !;):upyeah:
