Hey friends, I was fitting my horizontal head onto the studs to check squish, looked down, and this object appeared to have fallen from the head onto the garage floor. It's a small pin: 3.5mm by 33.5mm, tapered to a rounded point at one end. I've looked at every parts diagram I can find. I can't figure out if this came out of my machine, or where it needs to return to. The heads have been sitting around in my living room, getting shuffled to work and back, in various bags and boxes, so it's very possible this is not part of my bike, but I still haven't the slightest what it is, where it came from or how it got in or anywhere near the head. Most recently I had taken a bore gauge to the cylinder, but I can't see this being a missing part of the tool. The bike is fairly well taken apart presently: all water and oil lines are off, left side cover has been off, forks and bars have been off. 1998 mono 916, newish to me, service history unknown, appears stock other than brembo master from 848/1098 on front brake and clutch. It could have come from anywhere, but I can't figure out where. What is it?
Huge thanks friends I didn’t think it was out of the bike. Thinking more, it’s got zero wear marks on it, nearly impossible for a 25 year old machine.
could it not be out of the box that the bore gauge was in? I'm no precision engineer, but it looks like it might be a pin from a measuring gauge.
