Finally got out for my first ride since Boxing Day! As it was going to be a warm day here in South Australia I was awake early and setting off at 8.30am so as to be home around noon. For nostalgia I retraced the usual route I used to ride in the Adelaide Hills when I last rode back in the mid 90's (916/748SP days) - so it was Home - Lobethal - Strathalbyn - Home, a good run (tho admittedly a lot slower than it used to be as they did not have speed cameras back then!) Stopped for a coffee at Lobethal and parked beside a nice Katana, then as I was about to leave the GS1000S and TRX850 rocked up - maiden run for the 1000S after a bit of a rebuild and it looked very nice! After a quick chat to the owners I headed off to Strath - which was surprisingly quiet bike wise. Another drink, more chatting then saw the temp was approaching 30* so headed home - YAY for vented jackets And home again.
A little bit jealous looking at that fine day weather you've there sir, not been on mine since October and i need a fix pronto.
In all my years living in the UK, (I left when I was 27), I never didn't go riding as it was too hot! (regular occurrence here in the summer)
Yes removing a one piece leather suit on a hot sweaty riding day out is a mission for me these days too.
Last Sunday it was an air-cooled 1100 outing as a mate joined me for an early ride on his 2007 Multistrada S, (early start to beat the forecast heat being 24* when we left at 9am, 30* when we got back). For a change we headed towards the coast for a coffee at Goolwa, (and MORE petrol for the HM), and from there cut back inland to the Hills then home. People seemed to have it in for the MS on the day, having to avoid a wandering Landcruiser then a daydreaming biker on a small capacity bike. Was a good morning and still home for midday and lunch. The HM clocked up 12,000km during the ride so is now due a service
First ride for a few weeks yesterday, just needed to remember I had brand new tyres fitted! Met up with a friend and a couple of his work colleagues at 8am (early start before it got too hot), Mixture of bikes, V-twins from Japan, USA and Italy along with a golden oldie Honda 4. Did a hills run to Lobethal for coffee, (as did many others as busy there!), then my mate and me went to have a squiz at a radio control glider competition that was taking place, (with the obligatory fuel stop for my Hyper on the way) From there it was home again for a 186km round trip.
Nice ride out this morning, a very pleasant 24* when we left, and pretty much stayed around that temp all morning. Different destination for coffee this morning, out to the Cudlee Creek Café; quite a few bikes out today making the most of the weather.
After 4 months of hibernation/inactivity finally we got decent weather last weekend so arranged the HM to go for a hills ride with a mate and his SFV4S on the public holiday Monday. I had already connected the HM to the charger the day before 'just to make sure it had life', so got up, checked it would start, (which it did), so went online to renew the registration. As my mate had to be back for midday we didn't actually ride that far, too much time sat drinking coffee, chatting and watching the world go by - BUT it was good to be out on the HM again It has now gone back to sitting dormant under its cover as since then the weather has gone back to being cold and wet - COME ON, this is October in Australia, should be 20-30* by now (not 9* as it is currently)
Finally it stopped raining here and the sun put in an appearance so bikes out - two HM's, a Multi, and a couple of mates on Suzuki's Did a regular run to the coast for a coffee then on the way home stopped off at the local Lions Club Charity Bike Show. We arrived quite late so a lot of bikes had gone so did not take many pics.
Up and out early this morning as a warm day forecast, (currently 33* here). Ventured to Lobethal up in the hills as it was quite a bit cooler there. Went with a mate on his SF V4S, sat and drank a couple of coffee's and watched the world go by for a bit before heading home to beat the heat.
Quick ride out this morning, very pleasant 22* here at 9am Despite visiting Strathalbyn many many times today I finally stopped to have a look at this well known sculpture/statue of a local racer. The racer in question was Ken/Kenny Blake who was sadly died when competing at the IOM back in 1981. The effort, skill and workmanship that has been put in to creating this piece is truly amazing.
Weather here was pretty good today so I woke my bike up from 4 months of hibernation; went for a coffee run in the local hills then off to the coast to get chips for lunch.
Took a while for the weather to warm up but eventually it did manage to reach 17* @ 11am so off to the hills for coffee and some riding! As I'm 'home alone' for 3 weeks, (wife is on hols in the UK visiting family), it didn't matter what time I got home so made the most of it
