I have recently replaced a 750 monster engine with a 900 one. It has been a relatively simple swap, because I have kept the 750 carbs. Now, I realise that's cavalier and I expected some problems with the running, but actually the thing starts easily and revs sweetly... Thing is, I can run the bike for nearly a mile, then it stops because it runs out of fuel. So, question is. Is this symptom a case of wrong jets etc, in which case fitting the 900 jet kit will solve it, or is it actually a pump / supply issue? Just seems weird that it would stop dead. Like it's just drained the carbs then stopped. Thoughts?
My old 600 used to do that, turned out it was a pick up breaking down when hot, also had carb icing which felt the same
agree with al when it dies open the tank cap and see if it hisses as it draws air in then try to start it seem to think I have heard of monsters collapsing the tank due to vacuum in the tank
Its been a few years, but think this was the process most of the DD paddock went thru as all had this at some point! Fuel Fuel filter (we changed ours to inline. Its easier) Plugs Carbs Coils Pick ups
Well... I thought I would check the lines to and from the tank to make sure there were no blockages or loose connections, when I discovered something.... When I lift the tank I can see that all the hoses etc are in good nic and doing what they should be doing, but because the 900 engine has taller cylinders, the exit pipe from the filter was being crushed flat when I put the tank back down. Obviously didn't notice that before. Good if that is the fix, which is most likely! However won't know for sure until I put the F***ING carbs back on!!! A little hasty on the tear down! Thanks for the input by the way.... That helped me take a minute to think it through. Anyway, will report back.
