Guys and girls I need some help/advice from a solicitor or someone who has experience in the field of wills and probate. Put quite simply its to do with my wife and she doesn't have any money to go to a high street solicitor and she is reluctant to use my money which isn't much anyhow. I would be very grateful for just phone advice or can meet someone for advice and guidance. Anyhow thanks in advance. Regards Mark.
Last time I had an issue I contacted a few local ones. many solicitior's do a very low fee for a half hour consultation where basically you outline your issue, they give you a basic assessment of your issue legally and the possible options to move forward, a bit like a triage if you will. I think it was about £40 for that half hour but some do free If she feels a need then a simple call to your local specialist solicitor in the area you have a concern in, may help You can also get some basic free advice from your local advice centre
Noobie she has done all that mate and its a bit more involved than that. We have had quotes from solicitors of £300 an hour upwards for this which is just not doable im afraid.
Citizens advice? Does your house insurance have some legal helpline you could try. ? Is there an arbitration service covering the area of the issue you have. Failing that, if the outcome has sufficient importance/potential impact then paid for professional advice, with its protection, may be the sensible option.
Citizens advice sorry to say useless. House insurance could be an area to try. No arbitration service im afraid. Just need to talk to someone before it destroys my marriage and my wife which is more of a concern.
I agree with TT600 - Citizens' advice and House Insurance are both worth a try before spending money with a solicitor, but at the end of the day this is an area that solicitors specialise in, and it is complex. £300/hr sounds a bit expensive to me - I'd look for a small firm with low overheads, and ideally one that a friend or relative can recommend to you. That said, and I am sorry but I am not qualified to advise, the situation may rather depend on whether your wife is involved in executing a Will (which can be done without a solicitor, but often will involve using one), or needs to write/amend her own Will or contest a Will made by someone else. I hope it's not the latter, as that can be very troublesome. I saw this in the Metro I think, but I fear that google has turned up a Daily Mail link! Brothers lose inheritance after battle with stepmother | Daily Mail Online One other thing, although again this is not advice - it seems that sometimes a Will nominates the deceased person's bank or other legal advisor to act as executor, and this can be very costly (compared to nominating relatives, who can then appoint advisors as required).
I cant really say too much on an open forum to be honest which is why I asked for advice on a possible personal level. Sorry don't do unions never have never will do, no offence.
I have absolutely no link or experience of this firm but they are Kent based-your profile says you are- and the website indicates an initial free consultation. Found Via a google search, there may be similar closer to your specific location. Sara Binning Solicitors | Solicitors in Kent
There are a few websites like this which offer low cost or "free",advice, online. I cannot vouch for them, but having said that I did look at an answer they gave someone else reference Employment Tribunals and it coincided exactly with the advice I received from ACAS,(although the question was from a Claimant and I was a Respondent it was still quite useful).
