Need To Repack My Termi For Msv Noise Limits

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Duncs, May 25, 2021.

  1. Hi I need to repack the Termi exhaust for my MTS 1200 2010. Its a stainless Termi with 6 rivets at the output and 4 rivets at the input end.
Does anyone know what size rivets to buy? And what is the best packing material to use to achieve the quietest possible?
I need to get 105db for Cadwell and 102 for Brands. At the moment its 102.8 ,so I am close. Also got a backfire and I am hoping repacking will cure it.
Does anyone know a firm in London or Surrey that can do this for me?
    Thanks in advance
    Duncs

  2. These are the rivets I used last time to repack my termi D170 cans. Hopefully they use the same rivets across their range. Full dimensions can be seen in the description on amazon.

  3. Can’t you just put an eBay baffle in?
Also, 102.8 is so close to 102. Measurement is highly dependant on temperature, pressure, engine temp and also, most importantly, how nice your smile is!

  4. I would like to do it myself, but I've run out of time. I've got Cadwell on the 1st of June at 105db so I could repack it after that ready for Brands on the 21st, but I'm paranoid I'll get kicked out at Cadwell 102.8 is close to 105. I might give Protwins a call and pay the price for piece of mind ,plus the bike will run better. They might not be able to do it by Saturday. I've bought the rivets (thanks 990Glen ) and I'll order the repacking material tomorrow.
Covering all bases I've bought a cheap Standard exhaust of Ebay , which I can modify to fit quickly if it fails.

  5. Sometimes my smile doesn't work , to which end I have turned out paranoid. I'll try RickyX !!!

  6. Have you got the packing material?
Older silencers (9*6/748) use a sheet of glass fibre wadding whereas my 749 had this horrible injected tape fired into it.

  7. Don’t forget to flutter your eyelashes too. Always works!

Mind you, I have Brands tomorrow (105dB) and have taken my baffles out for the first time in years. I can Chuck them back in in 30 seconds but I thought I’d give it a whirl (full slap and lippy).

  8. I haven't got the packing material yet. Let me know how you get on at Brands tomorrow Ricky. I'll practise Fluttering my eyes in the mirror.

  9. 749R with 57mm system passed noise with no baffles.
Need to get rid of the salty taste in my mouth now...

  12. Did they give you a db reading or was nudge nudge wink wink.
Was anyone turned away because of noise levels?

  13. The guy with a Desmoseidici with GP4 system failed miserably and never got to go out.
