Anyone understand how the MTS 1200 gear/neutral wiring coming out of the crankcase rear is configured or how it works? It's a four-wire connection. TIA!
No mate, they fail quite a lot though and cost about 90 quid I think. Had mine done last year. I thought the guy at Ducati said it was 3 wires ? 12v, tacho and something else maybe ? Afraid you may have to ring the main dealer with this one ?? This may help ? Good luck though https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/neutral-not-displaying.52823/
When I built my contraption(s) I went through the same. I believe the switch in the multi engine is actually a variable resistor (or similar witchcraft) which sends a signal to the dash to indicate the gear as well as neutral. You can trick the ecu into thinking the bike is in neutral by grounding the loom connector, however the neutral light will be on all the time. I left mine disconnected but connected the clutch switch. This means the bike will start with no neutral light displayed, but the clutch lever must be pulled in...Safer option I thought.
Thanks guys. Yeah I was hoping to understand how it works - mine is left disconnected as it's not directly compatible with my 1198 wiring loom. As it has a few wires, and afaik the Multistrada displays which gear it's in (when it works) I was guessing it might send some basic binary (on/off) info across the wires to indicate the gear - if that was the case I might be able to figure out how to get a working gear indicator. Yeah mine shows neutral all the time Nelson!
