New 1000ss Owner

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Troutman, Mar 15, 2016.

  1. New to this forum, I recently bought a 2003 Red 1000SS that I have yet to ride due to the salty roads we still have here. Anyway the bike is in like new condition and it's done 24k miles, I really don't know how the 2 previous owners managed to keep it so good.
Anyway, I have a few bikes but this one has taken the no.1 spot with me, it's in the heated garage with my Boxster, the others have garage but not heated. I have a Firestorm which is my main weapon of choice, brilliant bike and such a good engine but the Ducati is going to get ridden this year.
Obviously it's got Ohlins at back, front forks are sweet and its got a set of carbon Termignoni pipes...sounds good. The other difference with the 900 is the swing arm I think..oh and Marchesini wheels. I'll put a photo on when I get one...ok here it is from the ad I bought it from. Ducati.jpeg

  2. Welcome, nice bike!
Be prepared for lots of members to start asking you to sell your Swing arm, wheels, Shock etc :)
I think the 1000DS is a great road engine (almost as good a the firestorm motor and nowhere near as thirsty ;) ).

  3. Nice! Also be prepared for tumbleweed response from those pesky carby owners!

I've got something similar to yours so a big thumbs up for me.

This is the Supersport to have. This is the one that will go up in value too. So rare. I wanted one with the red frame and nearly bought but it was a bit rough for 3.5 grand.

  4. I missed one up here near Dundee in December, 5K miles, he sold it for £3k.
I wish I had the money then but I think I would have not wanted to ride it as much cos of the low miles/value etc..this one was a good bit cheaper, I have the original cans (unmarked) to sell so I can ride it without the worry of depreciation. You're right about these going up in value..a good solid investment I think.

  5. Very nice bike, welcome to forum. Not as good as a Carby though, lol

    ;D

  6. Take your saggy heap of spluttering crud elsewhere. The IE boys are taking over round here.

  7. Is the one in Dundee long gone a red frame bike?

  8. You're still outnumbered

  9. Welcome :)

  10. Hi and welcome, lovely looking bike, (and that my friend is the main issue) they look fab but they're hideously uncomfortable to ride normally, I predict after the VTR the SS will feel unyielding and agricultural and you'll wonder what the hell you have done, but give it time and mileage and you'll be rewarded with fleeting glimpses of sheer unadulterated Ducati riding brilliance, hope you enjoy a long and productive partnership. Had to sell mine, just could not live with it.
    All the best.

  11. welcome to the asylum
nice looking bit of kit ignore the carby /ie argument
the carby looks better but the ie runs better
    (wait for it)

so go on what are you going to modify first ...
trust me you will love it and at times hate it

  12. I don't know if it had a red frame as the photos were in a garage and really close up..it was advertised on Preloved of all places.

  13. I can't think it needs anything doing..it's chuffin perfect. I would say pipes but it already got those, the airbox has been very carefully "altered" and it has a K&N filter. It needs nothing but me to ride it if I can, it does feel quite cramped compared to the VTR but I won't be doing long distances on it.

  14. Welcome and nice bike.

  15. Rich, I have got plenty spares already, thanks for being so considerate . If I get the chance one day I might get an IE. The 1000ss is really sweet but it would be in addition to my Carby.

  16. I'm thinking of a second bike. Test rode a Duke 690 today and trying an MV F3 next week.

  17. Oooo nice. Saw the MV dragster at the Scottish bike show last weekend....bada$$

  18. totally smitten. Any of them will do. thinking of PCP on a new (2015) Brutale 675 too. 3 grand deposit and then PCP 56 quid a month. Seems like a deal.

  19. That is good. Ducatis are awesome, MV just a little more special. Bimota.......
