Anyone got any dealings with MandS Motorcycles in Newcastle for Ducati? I know them and have used therm before but have never had a brand spanker off them before....I'm ready to do a deal on a 2013 Multistrada, subject to a reasonable price on my trade in. Any feedback on their Ducati service welcome.....
Have bought new and second hand bikes from them for years, and yesterday placed a order for the 2013 Multi they are enthusiasts as well as selling and servicing bikes you should have no problems dealing with them. Not sure if you are aware but there is a price increase 01-01-2013 so you need to make your mind up
Thanks Benner. I know some of the guys there fairly well and I know the manager is very much a Ducati fan. Suppose I'm just double checking before taking the plunge.
I have bought new bikes from them in the past when they had the Triumph franchise 2010, I have nothing but praise for the service provided both during the sale process and post purchase, "J biker" you are correct about Ian the owner / Manager being well into Ducati as he recently has had his own Multistrada (not the Demo) and intends getting the new 2013 model when fully available. I have been keeping an eye on discussions taking place on this Forum and I am considering the 2013 model as a replacement for my Street Triple R (which, is actually in the M&S showroom for sale as a possible part X) as an alternative, Ducati seem to have addressed most of the issues that was putting me off the early model most of which has been highlighted by members of this Forum, I am awaiting the Demo bike before taking the plunge, I did test ride the Triumph Explorer and was very impressed with the ride quality and engine but I feel I need something a bit more lightweight and Sporty as I also have a BMW K1600 GT in the garage for Touring Europe. Part of me thinks it would be a viable option (and best financially) to sell both the Street Triple & the K1600 then just have a Multistrada as the be all and end all option, or do I keep the K1600 for the long distance and get the Multistrada for everyday use and odd weekends up to Scotland. either way I hope to deal with (Gary @) M&S in Newcastle if they can pull together a good deal that is!!!
Yeah, I have dealt with Gary for my last used bike purchase. Happy enough with how they dealt with me then and in the past, bearing in mind they need to make a profit! 'Happygplucly' , are you looking at the base model without 'Skyhook'? I am, but I need to do the sums to see the price difference with heated grips and panniers which come as standard on the S model. Only if the price works out close to the next model up will I chance the extra complexity. The 'Skyhook' electronics and extra tech actually put me off the higher spec bike. I cant really get my head around just setting 'normal' suspension to its optimum.....a little extra preload on the back shocker when I have a pillion cant really be that difficult to do on a bike where the rear shock is so accessible. Its a bit like having a remote control for a car stereo
Heated grips are £200, 58 Litre panniers are £600 and you should be able to get a little discount off these if buying the bike there too, so considering the S models will be circa 3k extra I think your sums should be quite easy. I just bought a leftover 2012 bike at £11500 plus 1k of accessories chucked in free, I too did not really believe the extra premium for the S models are worth it, especially further down the line when the suspension breaks down. Good luck!
Hi really liked your street triple r in M&S did you buy it from them earlier this year? I considered buying it and running it alongside my existing MTS1200 but then thought Ducati do appear to have addressed all of the issues with the first model and having run one of them for over two years, and it really is a great all round bike why change so can't wait to get the new one hopefully the end of Jan.
Yes with some extras, and THE only colour! Have to say the k8 gsxr thou is a beast and will be missed as its just so creamy smooth and quick, but even with flat bars I dont want to tour on it ever again and despite being a thou it does need revs if you want to shift lol Been lusting after a V twin for years though and a bit more 'soul' as I havent really connected with any of my bikes for years apart from an 06 R1, one of the best looking jap bikes I have had the pleasure of IMO
"benner" thanks for having a look at the Street 3, I had to buy it elsewhere due to M&S relinquishing the Triumph Franchise in 2010, It is a truly fantastic little machine and I have reluctantly put it up for sale as I can no longer maintain a comfortable leg position due to Rupturing my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in my knee playing silly buggers in the Garden last Summer, I have had an operation to have it reconstructed using one of my Hamstrings which has resulted in restricted full movement of my Leg, hence me looking for a more upright sitting, relaxed knee position, alternative. "J biker" What model did you go for? with or without Skyhook? I am looking at the S Touring with Skyhook as I see it as an evolution of the electronic adjusted suspension that I have on the K1600, I can understand your comments / concerns regarding the complexity of the electronics on the new Skyhook and the ease of which you can manually adjust the preload on the base bike when carrying passengers or luggage, but the Skyhook is more than that which is installed on the BMW K1600, as the Multistrada Skyhook adjusts the compression and rebound as well as the preload on the go and adjusts to road conditions in a fraction of a second, I would probably just go for the standard suspension if the options was the 2012 model with Ohlins which is very similar to the K1600, but in my opinion I think the Skyhook will be seen as a system that really works and is worth the extra investment.

[/QUOTE] Yes,yes, but the forks aren't gold though, are they.
I went for the base model, tbh as much as Skyhook is a technical advancement I am not convinced it can dramatically improve on well set up 'traditional' suspension. Some of the press reports from the 2013 Multistrada launch have talked of a vague feeling at the front and maybe attribute that feel to the fact the suspension is 'self adjusting'. So right or wrong I have the idea in my head that I would prefer the bike to feel the same on every corner. At a £3k saving if I feel the need to upgrade the suspension then for around £1k I can get a complete suspension tune to match my riding style. Be that rebuilt/re valved, forks dropped a few mm etc. Then IMO have a superior bike that in 3-4 years time I have no concerns over failure of 'extra' electronic components. So I am not saying Skyhook is not good or ground breaking(?) its just not what I want and not worth the premium. BTW, is it my eyes or does the base model have gold forks??Ducati Multistrada 1200 - Ducati
They do, but they are slightly less golden than the electronic Ohlins. Keep telling yourself that no one can tell the difference
lol. Dont know why you think I couldnt mate, but oddly just felt as though I had my motorcycle 'mojo' back when out yesterday. Felt fekin great even on those wet greasy roads:biggrin: Cant wait for some ride outs
