I have recently purchased my first Ducati, a 1995 916. Is there a recommended workshop manual? Many thanks.
Welcome. The right manual for you depends on your level of experience and the level of jobs you want to undertake. The best if you have a good bit of history of relevant work is the factory manual. The one that explains everything comprehensively is the Red Baron manual. You can tell the guy made his living stripping and repairing these bikes. Haynes is a light touch for detail in comparison, as if it was written by someone who stripped a Ducati for the first time and copied some values from the factory manual, but it is relatively cheap and serves a purpose.
Many thanks for all the advice. I’m a complete novice but would really like to strip the bike down, but maybe beyond my abilities. I do have a couple of other questions which I would like to post. I’ll also add some pics
Here are some pics. I have only had the bike a week so haven’t been far on her yet. Seems very original, except the screen and age related marks and rust here and there and only 14,000 miles. So a bit of sympathetic restoration is probably best. Can anyone tell me what the small additions under the front indicators are?
Someone will no doubt post a request for you to re-take the images with your rubbish bins in the background. Seriously, nice bike. Envious .
Oh Gordon newbie Gordon you forgot to include your rubbish bin in your photos We like them and it keeps me happy bike looks lovely by the way and ... welcome into our mad house
Nice bike,I have the Red Baron manual as mentioned, however I changed to a v4s before I used it. It’s for sale if anyone is interested
Beautiful bike but to be honest those bricks keep pulling my eyes in. What the hell has gone on there ?
Cracking Bike. I've got a 916 engine in my S4 monster. I would recommend changing the reg/rect to a MOSFET. Dead easy job (lots of info on here) and if you use the Triumph harness you don't need to solder any wires or faff about.
