New 959 Owner - Bike No3 In The Garage

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by EliteStu, Jan 1, 2021.

  1. Good morning. I wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
Looking forward to being an active member on the forum!

I'm Stuart / Stu. I'm a 40-something big kid that loves his toys.
I've had a big break (15 ish years) from "proper" bikes and in more recent times been more focused on fast cars (current car is an RS6 which I do love as it does everything well), as my wife really wasn't happy with me having bikes. She's mellowed recently and I got the green light a couple of months ago to treat myself and add to my midlife crisis collection of shiny things.

Up until my break from proper bikes I ran a Kawasaki ZX-6R, but also had use of my Dads Suzuki TL1000R. Had a big "off" one day on the ZX-6R which trashed the bike and wrecked my confidence for a good while. Sold the bike a few month afterwards and never got back on the horse from then.
I was a bit of a prat back then - over confident and cocky rider, but I have mellowed now and going to invest in courses and improving my riding properly on the 959.

I've had the Ducati itch that must be scratched for ages now and I felt a used 959 was the way to go. Looked for ages and found the bike I wanted. It's a red 1 owner, 2017 bike with 7k miles. Has the Tri-options pack, so underbelly akrapovics with up-map, seat cowl, darker screen etc. The bike has a few other extras such as Domino grips, ASV levers, Evotech tail tidy and so on. Also came with a lovely set of Pit Bull paddock stands. Full Ducati history, brand new tyres, fresh MOT, new D.I.D Gold chain and a few other bits.

In my garage I also have a 1973 Honda CB350 twin which I have been restoring over the last few months. This was my late Dads bike. He never got to restore it and I felt it was the right thing to do, to do it myself.
I also have my little Suzuki TS50ER 50cc, which was my first bike when I was 7 years old. So I've had that bike for around 40 years! Dad taught me to ride on that bike (had to remove the seat and I sat on the frame as i was so small/young!) and it's what got me into bikes.

As you may have seen from my other thread I have a battery issue right now, so the bike won't start. Well, let's hope it's the battery, so amung my purchases already I have a Lithium battery on the way and I have an Optimate Lithium optimiser sitting here ready to hook up.

Look forward to chatting with you all.
    Thanks,
    Stu

  4. Hi Stu and welcome to the forum. I’m sure the starting issue will get sorted soon.

  5. Hu Stu,welcome to the forum.
I have read through your other thread and I agree with the other comments.
Let's hope the new battery sorts it out.

  6. Cheers everyone. Appreciate the welcome! I'll dig out a couple of pics in a moment....

  7. Excuse the messy garage. Lots of things going on at the moment and I need a tidy!

Second photo is one of my dogs deciding if the new addition is friend or foe!

  9. Well chosen camera angles... hiding a multitude of sins :worried:

  10. welcome mate

  11. Nice..what kind of dog is that?

  12. Cheers gents for the welcome.

The dog in the photo is a Rhodesian Ridgeback cross Weimaraner. He's a big lad.
We also have another Rhodesian Ridgeback (not a cross). A girl. But she refuses to go into the garage. Rather like my wife.
Boys only in the garage
Except if delivering my tea and cake :innocent:

  13. Hi Stu and welcome.
No Ducati at present but have 3 bikes in my black hole / garage as well. 3 is so much better than 2 :D

  14. Welcome.

Or he’s deciding which part to pee up....

  15. Thanks. I agree. Good things come in threes.
Although it sounds like I will have a 1930’s Royal Enfield in the garage soon too. Doubt I will keep it long but it’s been restored by a friend for the last year or so on behalf of my late Dad, so will be coming back to me fairly soon.

That wouldn’t have been a good way of christening the bike :D
