749 New Battery Required For 2004 749r

  1. Looks like the battery is stuffed on the 749 :(

Battery won't hold charge, and that's if I can get it to take any charge.

Any suggestions for the best deal?

Stick with OEM spec, buy a cheap no name one from flea bay, or look at one of the lithium-ion batteries?

    Any suggestions!

  2. batteryshop.co.uk has yuasa batteries for a similar price to ebay specails. .

  3. AGM type is the best. I've tested Yuasa before. Now I got "MOTOBATT", AGM type with high starting current. It is much better than standard battery.

  4. Also bought a motobatt off e-bay - cheap enough and seems to do the job, but only had it 6 months so a bit early for a absolute thumbs up

  5. Did you use optimiser throughout winter? I'm using it every 2 weeks in winter and battery is like new when proper season starts...

  6. Do have optimate, but, not used it regularly enough through winter. Battery about 4 yr old. Not sure what life to expect from a standard battery?

  7. I thought Optimates dried those batteries out?

Good enough of an endorsement for me. Will prob go for a Motobatt when im next after one.

  8. Looking at Motobatt myself, thanks for the suggestion.

  9. Had a Motobatt on my t9, looked after it but it only lasted 2yr and was not strong after 1. Not impressed but I might've got a dud. After a bit of research I bought a Yuasa from MDS Enfield. Nx day delivery and tracked, £45 through their website but if you buy from them through Amazon its £40. V helpful bloke at MDS told me Yuasa are made worldwide and there's no jap v tiawan quality difference anymore, theyre all the same, good. Once you've filled it leave it upright for 24hrs min then fully charge and discharge it a couple of times slowly, I'm using optimate then 21w bulb.

  10. After trying quite a few, I still end up back with Yuasa. Motobatt seem ok, but no better than some of the other 'branded' units out there. Varta are worth a mention and can be good value. I had nothing but trouble with BS Battery units leaking so I'd steer clear of those.
What I don't like about the motobatt is the terminal arrangement. Having to build the posts up with small brackets just gives rise to them coming loose (I see lots of these) or adding in more joins that can corrode and offer up resistance.
Li-On units are still expensive but starting to make a showing. Some can even be charged with conventional chargers now which helps with the install costs.
I'd go with Yuasa and maybe the newer technology will be more affordable by the time you need another :)

  11. Where are you based carbon as I have a spare?

  12. Melton Mowbray, but, travel on business all over East Midlands and further.

  13. I'm South Herts, top of the M25. I could get a postage quote but probably not worth it.

  14. Ok, but thanks for thinking of me.
