When I picked up my new Multistrada from MR last week, I took it for granted that the free Datatag Master fitted with every new Ducati would be in place (see DUCATI TO FIT INDUSTRY MASTER SECURITY SCHEME IN FIGHT TO BEAT CRIME) and informed my insurers that the bike had this security feature. However this is not the case and it turns out that I should have informed the salesman that I wanted it done. I'm having it done at the 600 miles service on Tuesday. So any potential owners of new bikes should ensure that they specify this when they order their bikes. My mate who's just bought a Monster 1100EVO from Ducati Aylesbury had his fitted without asking, so best be safe than sorry.
Its easily done or not done in this case. However, as a selling feature, it should be prudent of the "sales" people to advise you of this when making a purchase, regardless if you want it our not. Bottom line, you are the customer.
Has the technology and installation behind datatag moved on from the 90's? If not I wouldn't have the stuff fitted to my bike. I've just spent hundreds having it removed from my SS as it just looked awful. You wouldn't buy a Rembrandt and spray paint your post code on it, so why cover your pride and joy in black dots and acid etch the mirror glass.
Coz if it means that there's less chance of it being nicked then a few dots on the paintwork are a small price to pay IMO. after all the front gets covered with dead flies for half the year anyway
