New carbob bits fitted...but trouble with one !

  1. Finally got round to fitting the carbon bits to the 1198, heel plates / lower exhaust heat shield / long hugger / key cover. No problems fitting all the parts except for the key cover. Theres nowhere to fit the immobiler ring so ive added a couple of velcro dots on the ignition barrel but Im still not happy with the fitting and worried it will fall down the barrel when riding and end up stopping the bike. It also doesnt allow the bolts to sit snug and bottom out either. Anybody else had this issue and how did you solve it? My next thought is to cut a ring of pipe insulation and fit between the barrel and the imobiliser ring. Anyway heres some pics. Oh yeah, also fitted the double bubble screen.

  2. does the key guard not fit over the rubber one ?

not trying to be a smart arse by the way .....just i thought i read this somewhere. if all else fails re the immobiliser ring try and silicone it in place.

  3. i put the immobiliser ring inside the new carbon piece, i couldnt see it going anywhere to be honest

  4. I stuck mine in place with some butyl tape just check that the points of the ignition cover don't touch the tank because it will vibrate and take the paint off

  5. that nearside heel guard will scratch your black swing arm if you rest your boot against it.... it looks a bit weak thin and close....

have you all ready stuck a bit of tape there ....

  6. Hi, where did you buy the rear fender from as i need to replace my short one for the longer version like in your picture.

  7. The way it's sitting low does make it look like it's a cover for the standard part rather than a replacement

  8. I got the hugger from "the Carbon King" off ebay but I think there are a few companies doing similar. I looked at quite a few until I found one long enough to actually work!. I have already put a piece of black tape behind the left hand heel guard as like you say, it is very close to the swingarm and will probably mark it at some point. Ive got some clear vynil to fit to most of the bike so will sort a piece for here aswell. I dont think the guard goes over the original, at least thats not what I was planning.

  9. where you put the tape is fine whilst its sitting still..............dont forget that the bit under there is going to go up when the swing arm moves.....

  10. It looks to me that the key guard is touching the paint check that because it will damage the paint and gel coat on the tank

  11. Mine already F****** has !

  12. re the heel guard....use longer mounting bolts and washers between heel guard and rear set to space it away from swing arm. or space the entire rearset.

  13. Have you tried fitting the keyguard over the original part yet to see if that solves your fitting issues with it?

  14. Tried putting it over the original and it doesnt go, so definitely a replacement. Good idea on the spacer behind the heel plate, may try that. Spoke with the supplier of the keyguard and they are sending a new one so hopefully it fits better as like some of you have said, it does touch the tank in a couple of places so will remove the paint.

  15. i spaced my entire rear set without problems as my boot was marking the swing arm when hanging off. i would go this route rather than just spacing the heel plate. hope this helps.

  16. I'd definitely space out both sides of the rear sets, looks to close on both sides to me tbh. The key guard usually fits on top of the original, because of the immobiliser ring. Maybe this has now changed since 08/09 when I bought mine. It then pushes the carbon slightly away from the tank allowing for vibration and its a much firmer fit too.

Buy yourself some Oberon Foot pegs too, the standard 1's are bobbins (crap) by comparison...

  17. +1 it will definitely mark you swing arm if left like that.

I noticed it on mine and changed them straight away for DP ones, luckily my swinger is the aluminium one and it polished off cause I caught it early.
