V4 New Chain & Sprockets Time

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by West Cork Paul, Jun 9, 2023.

  1. After 22,000km I’m coming up to the stage where I want to change the C&S. the original C has a good deal of life left in it yet but it doesn’t look the best after almost 2 years and 22K Km.

I’m considering Regina’s HPE chain although everyone in the trade I speak too insists it’s not worth it and a regular gold link plate chain from the likes of Regina, DID, RK etc will last just as long and continue to look just as good if kept clean and lubed.

On the S front has anyone fitted anything a little more blingy than the standard black one and if so what did you use please? Photos would be helpful.

    TIA

  2. (Small) bike things, post 4436. JT 15t front with the shock/noise rubber insert, RK chain and a 43t r from Germany as I've gone 525. All bought through MR. Andy

  3. Thanks Andy, I saw that post earlier. The V4 models are already 525 (124 link) chain run over 16/42 sprockets but the OM gets all threatening about how the warranty will be voided if one steps away from the type approved ratio and with over 2 years of a 4 year warranty remaining I don’t want to give the one and only dealer here in ROI any excuse to refuse a (hopefully never needed) warranty claim.

  4. Should be a free choice. The German company who manufactured my rear sprocket, manufacture OE sprockets for Ducati. JT are probably the biggest supplier of sprockets, certainly in the UK if the EU. The Ducati OE chain has no protecting finish so rust just by looking at it and fitting something like an RK wouldn’t void a warranty at my dealer. Good luck in your search. Andy

  5. I’ve got the DID gold chain on mine, would like to get a more blingy sprocket, if anyone has any recommendations

  6. For me the Regina HPE (low maintenance - not no maintenance) is worth the extra money for the simple fact it only needs a bit of chain cleaner on it once every so often. I just give it a good wipe down when washing or drying the bike if it’s been damp out and never have have to lube it. Clearly the carbon coating on the chain rings work well. Is amazing that it never gets hot… to the point you can touch it (even after a spirited ride).

  7. It doesn’t have to be OEM chain and sprockets but the type approved final drive ratio, 16/42, has to be retained. JT sprockets are by far the best IMO, however, I’m not sure they manufacture them yet as their catalogue still carries TBA for the bike, if anyone’s fitted JT sprockets please let me know.
I’m really just trying to find out, as @Multirider75 asked, if anyone knows of any other, other than OEM from Ducati sprockets out there.

Useful to know, and that seems to be what all users say, maybe the trade are just unsure having not actually sold or used them personally ? However, it is a significant €150 price uplift for the Regina HPE over say a gold DID, but I’m likely to veer towards spending the extra.

Maybe I just get a standard unpainted sprocket and spray it red with Holts very tough paint.

  8. Greetings from Dublin - did you get your chain replaced- just wondering how it is ?

  9. I like my black chain.

  11. Looks good - what did you change

  12. How about Supersprox sprockets. I have these, front and back, on my KTM 1290.

I am sure they make them for various Ducatis -

please don’t or if you do photos won’t be required.

Do you hope the front sprocket will come away easy?

  14. I’ve not fitted it yet (bought it about 8 weeks ago - but not used the bike much recently). Had to go OEM for the sprockets as I couldn’t find any 3rd party who made a front sprocket with rubber cushioning or a steel rear sprocket - lots of alloy ones out there. Chain is DID gold & gold ZVM heavy duty 525 x 124 links.

At the time of purchase JT still didn’t have an option available.

When I say I couldn’t find a 3rd party who makes the right parts, clearly there’s someone out there as Ducati don’t make them but I couldn’t find a vendor of same spec ones.

Thus, I’ll be living with a black rear sprocket again.

NB @gc6269 has a single side swing arm, there’s much more in the way of blingy options for those.
