Still got brake shudder after really cleaning up pistons and discs so going to try different pads and discs Has anyone tried Blackshadow and how did they fare? Also seen some EBC XC as also looking for my 748 - will they be ok for touring and has anyone direct experience on the ST ie did it sort out shudder for good?
check ur bobbins are freeand the rotor has a bit of movement to it.i.e..it floats....if it floats to much tho that will also cause a shudder....new disc time if so..if its just the bobbins then get them moving and a good clean with brake cleaner
Have cleaned up the rotor buttons and also thoroughly cleaned the pads/calipers/pistons as well but still no joy - googling the problem suggests is common for the st bikes and no-one seems exactly sure as to why?
I am cool with that but dont want to put new on and find I have same problem - hence the recommendations needed for discs that people have put on and not had shudder
i replaced with brembos and shudder was gone...just make sure you get the offset correct and any disc will do i reckon ..if its new that is
I am on my 4th set of EBC's the issue is cleared up with new discs, pads and or a big clean and comes back in 2-3K miles. Current batch of EBC's are semi floating which means (according to them) you can't shift the buttons but the bike can. I am currently going through a MOT failure because of it. Magic MOT machine spits out "excessive disc run out" after some work I find out this means different braking performance over the face of the disc. My 5 year battle continues
Johnny - that's what concerns me - I want to cure the problem as its v offputting Also I would really like to work out what is causing this problem and why bike specific especially since its got the same braking system as the 748 On my GSXR trackbike I have blackshadows and they seem v good All my other ducatis have the oem brembos - my 748s have ended up slightly warped after 18k so I have just replaced them with some more brembo snowflakes however that's acceptable to me
I have tried everything I can think of and have had the entire front end refurbished. This is rapidly becoming a deal breaker for me and this bike
Have you got a micrometer to check the thickness of the discs at various points around the circumference? If the thickness of the disc varies you will get shudder. But - check the steering head bearing adjustment and wheel bearings before you condemn the discs...
I put a set of Blackshadow discs on my ST4s. Have a couple of thousand miles up on them now. They look nice, fit well and no issues in terms of braking. However, there is a very slight delay in braking from squeeze to slowing down in heavy rain with the EBC HH pads. I had a set of EBC ProLites before on a ZZR and with EBC HH pads and they did exactly the same thing. They are superb in anything but very heavy rain, and it's not that they don't stop you, it's just that there's a perceptible millisecond before they bite. With the EBCs previously, this was entirely cured by moving to Carbonne Lorraine pads. Guess what I'm doing next? A
