New Member & Hyper Help Required!

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Cold Hands, Dec 28, 2014.

  1. Hey everyone,

Just a quick post to introduce myself and also ask for a little help if anyone can advise?

I'm Tom, 26 years old from the UK.
I bought a 2012 Hyper (796) a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loving her!
She's my third bike after a KTM Duke and Yam MT-07.

Now a little request for some advise if possible!

I've attempted to fit Oxford Heated Grips (Touring) to my Hyper and I've ran into some trouble.
I've not had any trouble with my last fitting but this Hyper has hit a speed bump.

Both grips have been removed but my throttle-side Oxford grip is too small to fit over the plastic throttle tube and handlebar.
The left side Oxford grip is fine, no troubles but I just don't know what to do about the right hand side.
I'm now riding about without a grip and it's no fun!
    Please could someone advise?

    Thanks very much.

    Tom - Cold Hands!

  3. I fitted Datatool Therma Grips and they went on a treat. I had to sand of the 'lip' at the end but they stay on no snags. Not cheap but excellent. They have a sliding switch for power levels and wire direct to the battery - they switch off automatically. Great bits of kit

Having said that, it might be worth sanding the end lip down and giving that a shot? . Good luck

  4. Hussy lol

    Oh and welcome to Tom

Problem with some of the after market stuff is that they are a universal fit but not all bikes are universal.

  5. Thanks guys,

First port of call for me then is to sand down the plastic lip on the throttle tube, hopefully the Oxford's will slip right on afterwards.
Guessing heavy duty/coarse paper will do it, it's only plastic!

Also just found that the left side bracket/clamp which holds the hand guard to the bar is half-snapped so that'll be fun trying to source such a small part!

I have a feeling this one may be high maintenance..!

  6. It's a Ducati did you expect anything less ?

In all honesty if we were worried about breaking down or maintenance costs there would hardly be any Duc owners.

We can put all that aside for the dirty great grin they put on our faces when we ride them.

  7. I've had my hyper 1100s for 4 years and have done 40k + on it. I've had only electrical problems with it - immobiliser cutting in when the bike's wet.

I've had it serviced as per the manual by Ducati and it's been an outstanding motorcycle. I have a 22 litre tank, single termi, heated grips and some very pretty Rizoma reservoirs. It's my daily commuter and is used whenever there isn't snow and ice on the roads. I love it. Persevere with it, it's well worth it :)

  8. Welcome Tom

  9. Hi Tom

I don't have heated grips on my 821, but after todays trip might consider it..

a good pair of winter gloves might help, there's another thread somewhere on here about that, I have some Knox winter gloves, which are okish, pretty tight on my hands, but I guess they'll stretch out.. what i have found effective is a pair of silk liners under my 3 season gloves, no additional bulk, and pretty warm, down to about 2 degrees, about as warm as the Knox gloves anyway...

'grats on the the HM purchase, welcome to the forum..

  10. Thanks everyone for your welcome and advice!
    Ride safe.

  11. You too
    Keep those hands toasty :)

  12. Get a car for winter, Dave :)

  13. I've got heated grips on my Hyper 1100S as well (40K miles now too!) and it took a bit of head scratching to fit them.

They are handed - so there will be a specific left-hand grip and right-hand grip, but you can bet money that they're not marked and/or it's buried in the instructions if at all!

The left-hand grip sits directly on the bar (metal) so is usually hotter than the right-hand grip which is insulated by the plastic throttle tubing.

From the looks of the grips in your picture, the lower one has a larger hole (centre) than the other (top) one?

I expect you've fitted the one that's supposed to go on the throttle onto the wrong side!

  14. Hi tom....have you tried the hairspray trick....I only ask as I was having problems fitting the grips to my supermoto project build....hairspray acts as a lubricant on application and then turns to glue when it dries....took me 30 seconds to get the grips on and now they're solid.

  15. We used to use washing up liquid, slides on easy enough and does dry off after a while

  16. Hi Tom

As with so many things, there is a u tube video available for what you need:

Which KTM Duke did you have, how did you get on with it? I have heard the gearboxes are not that good and they are the one negative on a great bike. I would appreciate you letting me know what your thoughts about the bike are.

  17. That bloke above needs them heated grips ..... Look at the icicle hanging off the brake lever !!
