Hello, just joined and am restoring a 1978 Harris special darmah ss. Frame is Dr1 so I bet it was the first produced by Harris. Has the space for a small battery from an ss which is a bit of a problem with the darmah electric start. Still that's about the only gripe with it. If anyone knows more about these it would be great. Thanks Frank
welcome, I put a AGM Gel Battery Fit Suzuki RGV 250 J VJ21 1988 | eBay in my RD250, might need a different size for your Darmah but all good so far.
Hi Frank and welcome! Sounds a great project and as you will see in my albums I love a bit different! I had a Harris Magnum Kawasaki quite a few years ago - fantastic looking and sounding weapon that drew big crowds every time! It suffered from awful vibration up through frame at 80+ Mph and @ 100 Mph it shook your eyeballs out of their sockets!!! It got nicked and never seen again when I left it outside a stripper pub in Hayes,Middx - he got what he deserved
Contact Harris for info and get a confirmation letter on the frame number for the future (while you can) Welcome
I have sent pics and been in touch with Harris yesterday they were very helpful and will get back to me with anything they have on the bike. Fingers crossed.
I have got more info. The bike is a Harris Rayner darmah SS. The frame is one of 20 made by Harris and sold to sports motorcycles and Dave Rayner. Mine has the frame number Dr1 so Dave Rayner 1. The engine was built by Steve Wynn , it was bored out fitted with forged pistons omega, and a imola cam. I have contacted Steve Wynn so might find out more.
