  1. Hi
I have just bought my first Ducati, a 2014 Monster 796 in black and just wanted to say hi.

Also I do a lot of riding in town, does the 14T sprocket really help?

    Thanks

  5. Hi
14T will help you deal with 'chugging' at low speed as you've already read no doubt. If it's your first time on a tract.. Ducati then it does take some getting used to in town.

  7. Welcome.
I'm probably in a slight minority but I prefer the std front sprocket .... at least I find that it suits my 750 best.
I did lower the final gearing a while back and I did it by fitting a larger rear sprocket rather than a smaller front as this gives the chain a slightly easier time as well as avoiding any chain/swingarm clearance issues (though may require a longer chain depending on how far you go ...I got away with a 2 teeth increase with the original chain).
I found that it made the engine much too "buzzy" at higher speeds.
Tbh, I rather like the std, "long" gearing anyway as it suits the torquey character of the motor.
It does take a little getting used to at first, but you get used to it.
I find that, on slow turns around town, I often dip the clutch momentarily just before powering out of the corner, then feed it back in as I open the throttle.
This avoids the "chug" and more specifically any transmission "snatch".
In fact, lately I have been considering changing the gearing the other way, ie going even higher via a smaller rear sprocket, to give the motor a slightly more relaxed time at high cruising speeds ...but this possibly wouldn't be necessary on the bigger motors.

Check out UKMOC for monster-specific stuff.
