New Now Or Risk 3,000 Miles On Pr3's?

  1. I've got PR3's on my Multi, they have done around 2,000 miles, maybe a little less. I tried to keep a record of how long but haven't done a good job.

I'm off to Europe on the bike solo for just over 2 weeks, the trip is around 3,000 give or take (dependent on how reliable my GPS/map reading is...)

5 days of the trip is purely for the Alps, so lot's of twisties, also, straight away I'm powering across France via motorways to Marseilles which is 600 miles of motorways.

The front is still like new, which is astonishing, I simply can't see that needing to be replaced. The rear is new like, it has some very, very early signs of wear, such as the profile not being entirely perfect anymore, you can't see it, but you can just about feel the squaring profile coming into play. Only slightly though. There is a good amount of tread left. Probably 4x the legal limit I would say. If not more.

I've heard reports of these tyres lasting up to 9,000 miles! But I'm curious if I should bother splashing out £150 to get the rear replaced, sell my current as part worn and have peace of mind...

Or am I being overly cautious?

    Thoughts?

  2. Should last no problem, change when you get back.

  3. my mate put at least 9000 miles on pr 3 on his multi so no need to change

  4. Aces, I'll stick with it then. Thanks guys :)

  5. I've never gotten more than 3k out of any tyre I've ever had.... Current supercorsa's being the worst (obviously I know they're soft) but rear is on about 1500 (and knackered) ....i don't know how you all do it... My mate at work got 2.5k out of his tyres on his zzr 1440 before they were completely trashed.... Must be where I live....

  6. I'm the same, I've never been able to get more than 3k out of a rear tyre. But the Pilot Road 3's are just excellent. Amazing tyre technology.

  7. Well the rsv4 is up for a set I'd say in the next month or so, so I'll probably go for some.... Downside of the supercorsa's is they dangerous in the wet.... It never gets used in the wet intentionally but I've been caught out before...

  8. Should be OK.

  9. I'll go easy on the throttle on the motorway stints and when in Switzerland.

OH! Totally forgot to mention, the trip also includes 1 lap of the Nurburgring... New factor?

  10. No problem getting minimum 5k on them.
Used to see 5.5 to 6 k on the road 2cts

  11. nurburgring on a weekend is horrific try to do on a evening , got one lap in myself

  12. I am hoping it will probably be a Tuesday I'll arrive. I've checked and it's open.

I will set up camp first, possibly risk leaving the panniers and top box in the tent whilst I'm there... So I can really hoon it around the track :p

  13. Don't they sell tyres in Europe?

  14. Nope, only in England and India...

  15. I thought as much

  16. Ive been going to the nurburgring for years now . usually for about a week at a time and i`ll never go on a weekend again . Years ago, approx 4 , I went with a mate did one lap on a saturday and said never again . went round to a cafe over the track and watched for a while then went back to the hotel ,Blaue Ecke at Adenau , news filtered back that there had been 3 motorcyclists killed in separate accidents that afternoon. Not too surprised as every lunatic for 100 miles must have been there . Week nights are different and much safer .

  17. I've so far got 3500 miles (including 2 track days) out of PR3s on my mts1200 and the rear is a little squared off but should be good for 5000 at least. For comparison i never get more than 2400 (and once 1200) out of Diablos, so the PR3s have been a revelation. Looking forward to trying the PR4s :)
