Hi! I've just bought (two days ago) a 2011 Multistrada 1200 S Touring and I'm very excited to get out and about on it. It is my first Ducati, and my first non-race replica! I've had a really good look around the forum - there is some great stuff on here! The bike came with the standard screen and the Ducati Touring screen. I've already experienced the buffeting that people talk of, although it isn't terrible from my point of view probably as I've come from a GSXR, but have just ordered the Aztec spacers from Dave. It will be interesting to see how they work for me. My question though - yes, I do have one! - is around the low speed running which is, frankly, terrible. I need to sort this out. I've read about the FatDuc and think I'll likely get a set as they are pretty cheap for a fix, but I'm also interested to understand the standard map, and in particular, what map I've got on the bike at the moment. I assume that I need to get a Ducati dealer to look at that and let me know if I'm on the latest? Is there a way I can see what version I'm on? My bike is still in Ducati warranty (just) - is an ECU map update covered under warranty or is it something that is only done if I pay for it? Is there anything else I need to consider before my warranty runs out? Thanks for your advice! Cheers Steve
 You are very funny! Actually, I do know where to buy one as my wife just bought a BMW (F800R) from our local dealer...... Couldn't have two BMW's on the drive though - that would be a bit too twee!
I am also new to Ducati ownership and was surprised how poor the fuelling is at low revs. I fitted a full LeoVince decat exhaust and am having the fuelling sorted at CJS tomorrow. Total cost ~£1100 but I think it'll be worth it. I certainly much prefer the look and the sound. Nick
Thanks Nick - I'll be interested in hearing how you get on - I'm certain the end result will be fantastic. For me though, I'd find it hard to justify the extra £500 for the remap at the moment since I've literally only just spent £12k - it would be hard to explain that one if you know what I mean!! A FatDuc could be my answer though.
Chris from CJS can remap the standard bike setup for a reasonable price you can even send him the ecu by post!
Very good. I couldn't understand how it was going to take a whole day but it's a very cerebral process. Chris is a great guy and very knowledgeable. He explained a lot, some of which I could understand and some of which was over my head. Anyway, first impressions are that the bike runs much smoother, particularly below 3000 rpm. Power up from 146bhp to 152bhp. If I come to sell the bike it's all reversible - just send the ECU back to him and he'll reflash it back to stock. Now I need to find some O2 sensor bungs so that I can at least remove the sensor on the front cylinder (he just disconnects them as they are no longer used). If anyone is going to him, don't believe where Google Maps tells you he is. He is actually on the other side of the road and unsignposted. This is the latitude / longitude (just paste it into Google): 51.33804,-2.520222. Nick
Yea, so you can get Tank slapped right through the hedge for no mistake on the riders part! I would rather have a poor fuelling bike than one that spits you off. EEK.
You need to sort out the low down running? Rev the bloody thing! No problem with my 2012 bike, I love it, yes it could be smoother but it's a Big V-Twin, that's the way they are, my Aprilia was the same
I'm guessing most dealers would expect you to book the bike in to check what map you have and make a charge for the service. However, as you may be aware there seem to have been quite a few upgrades to various aspects of the model so it might be worth doing before the warranty ends. Don't know where you are, but I found Nelly at Cornerspeed, Nottingham very helpful.
Congrats on the purchase! Its a great bike! Make sure the exhaust valve is working! Then disconnect it! That will make a difference! Stupid thing! Then fat ducs! Then if that doesn't work get a new exhaust, then CJS! That should sort it! If not, then upgrade to a 2013 model! Ps Big Kitch exhaust bungs a plenty on eBay!
Oh, gotcha. Is that something that's worth while doing if you have a standard Termi can and engine map, or is it something you'd do in conjunction with other mods? I did the same thing to my KTM 990 Adventure as a stand alone mod and couldn't tell the difference to be honest. Presume you have to deactivate them at the ECU as a minimum?
Can you just disconnect this valve? Won't it be left in the closed position? Or can you put it permanently in the open position?
I had my ECU remapped by Chris at CJS Racing. As part of that he disables the functionality of the O2 sensors. One could just leave them in place but I wanted to tidy it up, hence the bungs to fill the holes. If you just have the Termi end can (as opposed to the full system) I don't think any changes are made to the ECU. In that situation, disconnecting the O2 sensors will throw up errors I believe. Nick
