Another classic ugly design that will upset the fashion followers  It looks so functional I must have it!
Havin a set (PR4's) fitted on Sat am, only got 2300 miles out the Pirelli Scorpions so hoping to get more out the Michelins
For some reason the Scorpions just don't last, plus the front wore out in an unusual way. Road 3s looking good after 3500 miles including two up to the Alps. Don't like lack of feel from the front though. Vague feeling. I have been told the compound on the edge of the rear tyre on the new 4s is not as soft as the 3s? Cant see why as they seem perfect when cranked over without any undue wear..will be changing mine just before my next Alps tour in July, so waiting for other peeps to be the guinea pigs
I soon need a new set of rubber. Can't decide between pr3 or Metz z8. (or pr4). Anyone tried two or more or seen a comparison elsewhere? Like most I suppose I am looking for a good mileage/grip/handling balance. Since it rarely stops raining wet grip is important. I have tried the pr 3 on my previous MTS and they were excellent for wear and wet grip but a bit vague at the front as others have said. It was a while ago now so can't remember clearly so not decided whether to go for them again or try the z8 that is even better in the wet apparently.
My scorpions have just tipped 3000 and within about 400 miles have dropped tread dramatically! Changing next week. Powers or roads? Hmmm. Price up tomorrow.
I got about 6K out a rear and near 8 out the front of the PR3s on my TL1000 and I don't hang about. Awesome tyres. In fact, best all year road tyres I've ever fitted. My pal from Stoke can get me some 3s fitted for £190! So they'll probably be the last set I ever fit to my GSXR 1100, and the TL will get 4s when it needs new boots. My Duke only plays on the track but I hear club races use the PR3s as intermediates. I can testify to their wet grip being outstanding so am looking forward to trying the 4s.
Changing my Scorpions tomorrow even though they only have 1500 miles on them, I have never liked the slow heavy feel from the front. I'll be fitting Bridgestone T30's.....if they're good enough for the Ron Haslam race school, they're good enough for me! Supposed to last ages too. Mark at Ride In Bike Tyres Reading, says the PR4 is just as good as the T30, but I have always liked Bridgestone on my other bikes, so will give them a try. Took the wheels out tonight ready for fitting tomorrow. Rear nut came off easily with the Clarkes mains powered impact gun
I have fitted many brands over the years, but as one garage owner told me told me," black and round and most tyres will out ride the rider on the road " my scorpions have lasted over 3000 miles with plenty left in them?
Horses for courses but I'd rather have a better "black n round" for that moment when the abilities of said tyre make the difference between "home for tea n medals" and" hospital food". It's an informed choice depending on your riding style and confidence I guess. Anyway, the more I spend on tyres, the less she spends on shoes!
I've had two sets of PR3s and one set of Z8s. I'd take the Z8s over the PR3s any day. Having said that, now that they've allegedly fixed the mileage wear issue on the PR4s, I'll be trying them next time I need new boots.
