2015 Yamaha R1 rumoured to make 230hp - Motorcycle news: New bikes - Visordown New R1 rumored to have 230bhp...holy shit 1199 moves even further down the want list as far as I am concerned. Yes we will get the soulless bullshit remark about Japanese bikes, which is just misplaced snobbery mostly. The Japanese make better bikes, more reliable, cheaper etc. Anyone who says a mad gixxer is bland is an idiot. I'd be riding one but I like V Twin torque, which is my excuse for riding Ducati's. Oh and they can be prettier, which is another excuse. But as an Engineer, the Japanese make better bikes. Dont even try to argue as I will just put my fingers in my ears and go la-la-la-la. I am not a IL4 fan in general, but this cross plane crank 230bhp monster interests me. If it does what it says on the tin, then the benchmarks have not just been moved but theyve been put somewhere Ducati cannot reach with V2 technology and will have to change. The writing is already on the wall for V2 and this might just be its death sentence. Expect Honda to move it further when the blade is replaced. Gimme a v4 with torque enough to tear the earths crust please Ducati. Oh and one that doesnt boil my nut sack and need a mortgage.
Perhaps Phil, but I still feel Ducati need to change fundamentally to compete at any level of racing. Racing makes reputations and Ducati's is based upon their racing heritage. Without results the rep just slips further and further down until they are just a niche manufacturer building nice looking expensive bikes for old men.
I saw that on facebork the other day, 230bhp on a sub 200kg bike is bonkers! I have to agree with you though, V Twins are great engines, torquey and characterful but due to the size of the pistons and the stroke length its too difficult to make enough power to win the superbike arms race...
Yeah, agree'd. I would like the Panigale to be a 1000cc V4, and then there be a 899cc Twin, just like I would love for Aprilia to build an RSV4 that was smaller capacity. I think the Desmo would have done well in WSBK and they made enough, but seeing as what it was based on it would DEFFO have been seen as cheating... Until Aprilia came along and did the same!
Watching supersport and brands, the trumps triple sounded ace. I once had a t595 loved its rasp and I too would buy a torquey triple sports bike from them, but not a wee 675.
The 675 is a cracking engine and light too. Really surprising but it just lacks some top end. I get (an indicated) 167 from the 848 but only (!) 145 from the Daytona. Other than that they don't feel that different in terms of low and mid range. But a 1200 Triple would be a beast. I don't know if Triumph have the technology to tame something like that yet.
Of course they do, they will buy it from someone like all the other engine management systems are (Siemens?) I loved my 675 but spent a fortune on the suspension because it was junk as standard. I have been looking at the newer 675R for a while because actually unlike some others I think the 848 is quite a big jump in power, the 675 was flat at the top end which kinda helped things stay in check. Luckily the colours are shocking and it looks like a cross between a Japanese bike and European. So I am 'Stuck' with the twin for a while.. Nothing sounds better though than the 675 with the shark-mouth arrow on it.
The new D675R is an absolute belter, out of the box its probably the best 600 class sportsbike on the market for trackdays. I love the howl of the 675 lump too, my Street R with the open Arrow pipes on it sounded epic
Benelli do an 1130 Triple... Not ridden it but if my 900 Tornado is anything to go by it will be a peach of an engine
There are a couple of guys doing this with the 1050R I reckon it would be a chuckle. Not quite the same as a dedicated sportsbike though Unicorn Out Front – Triumph Daytona 1050R | Ride Icon
If only people knew how to ride, and realised that the throttle goes both ways. Hmm ... some clown ought to sig that, to remind folks
My only issue with the current R1 is the look and those lumps for exhausts at the back, they look dreadful! Like with any bike they can be changed but as standard exhausts go the R1 tops it. At least i with a duke it looks awesome without having to do much. Cant beat the 1998 R1 in Red and white in my opinion. We will have to wait and see if this rumour is true, would be a beast though.
