Hi all I really like ducati and seriously thinking about getting one this year. However my budgett is going to be around 3000 pounds and I would like to know how expensive generali maintenance is? I like super bikes and can ride any size. I need every day commuter (cca 15 miles a day travel to and from work). Is there any point getting ducati at all? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
One of my friends commutes on a monster 620, the only thing to break was the front plug cap, caused a misfire but easily found and replaced. Service cost depends where you take it or if you diy it, a local Ducati specialist will be your best bet for the big service with belts and valve clearances. Other than that its pretty normal.
and presumably (if a monster's the same as the 899) has a longer service interval than most bikes @7000 miles instead of the bog standard 6k AND from my experience the reliability of motorbikes are completely the luck of the draw. heard all sorts of horror stories about ducati ownership but ive ridden/commuted through the winter on my 899 (5300 miles of it) and not had one single issue, yet one of my 675s blew up on me within a couple of thousand miles of owning it good luck with whatever you decide
I'd also like to think that to try and increase your chances of getting a good one, buy one which has a good and up-to-date service history. I think you can point from far which has been well maintained and serviced.
I commute (admittedly not every day) on an 1198s. I like to think my chances of getting to and from work safely are increased because it is so damn loud. Had a few small niggles, mainly when it is raining but on the whole no trouble at all. Prior to this i did 8 years on a 749, then 6 months on a 1098 Street Fighter. For 3k i would definitely get a 749 or 999. They are so narrow, perfect for slipping through traffic.
