New To Ducati.

  1. A friend of mine is looking at a 2007 999R being sold by Seastar Superbikes. Was bought and used in Italy by a guy who brought it back to the UK and registered it on a 999 plate..It has 2,300 miles and is up for sale at £15 495.
Would welcome any comments on this as regards the selling dealer, price, etc.
    Many Thanks

  2. IMO you are paying through the nose to recover the cost of the private plate. Not sure if you could ask what the price would be without it. However on the plus side, the bike is sold with a 12 month warranty and Seastar are authorised Ducati dealers, dealer of the year 2015 according to their web page. It's not the more desirable pre facelift carbon model but as the advert quite rightly states, getting few and far between. If your friend likes it and has the money, JFDI and enjoy any of the Indian summer we might get :upyeah:. Andy

  3. Thankyou for your thoughts Andy.Perhaps as you say there is a bit of mark up with the plate.Low mileage 999R's are starting to get very thin on the ground. My friend wants to tuck it away,do very little mileage on it,and hopefully recover his money some years down the line.

  4. I have had very little success investing having taken a near 6 figure hit in 2000 and whatever when the stock market crashed so I am definitely not the right person to be talking sagely. However for what it is worth, I have come to view investing the same way I view gambling - if you can afford to lose some (or all) of the stake, fine. If you cannot, walk away. Andy

  6. That ones not an R, far more special ;)
Thought you had just bough one Merv? Or was I dreaming?
A mate just paid £14250 for a 1500 mile Fila R after searching for 1 year. I paid £10k for mine, same mileage UK Fila with full history about 3 years ago. That was about on the money I think so this is a good idea of the movement in price.
Fila's command a bit more than red ones as do Xerox.
History is key, his had full proof of mileage, an Italian one won't have.
UK bikes would be worth more due to this.
£12 to £13k is my guess if it's red, bit more for a Xerox, but if it sells for more then I am wrong, and happy to be wrong :)
Dealer will be making the rest to feed his family and cover warranty. If storing he can haggle for no service, no warranty as it wouldn't be worth anything anyway.
Plate is worth nothing really, just bought R999 MRV for peanuts :)

  7. Many thanks Exige for your information.I will pass on your comments and all the other info you guys have kindly provided.:upyeah:
Yes- I did buy an R a little while ago.Mainly for having the odd blast when I can.

  8. Yes :Angelic:

Reads MR V too ;) unless I could find someone called Merv who owns a 999R, very unlikely indeed :D

  10. It might not be for sale :Finger: I bought it for my red 'R'

I have MY52 DUC to swap from my 998 onto my Fila R. WSB winning bike number was 52 in 2004 :)

  13. It would indeed, as mine is still on retention :D

  14. Just a quick update. My friend is still interested-but not at the price they are asking.I think he is going to go back to the dealer and see how the land lies as regards price negotiation.
Thanks again for all your help.:upyeah:
