hello people recently got myself a 2002 998bip in need of some loving, any help advice for my ducati journey much appreciated and welcomed riding it home was hotter than id like tbh so ive taken it apart to have a nosey round an get to know her a lil bit. ive got a Haynes manual for a 996 an was hoping it would be close enough that I might be able to use parts of it as a guide or give me a rough idea anyhow, Haynes says 3 sensors, gauge, ecu, fan switch, mine has 2 with the front port blocked off is this right ? parts diagram says yes but jus want to check how can I test fan switch fan operation ? I can probe the fans to test them, normally id bridge the switch plug to test the system but if fans are ecu controlled ? I don't want to risk frying the ecu ? ive noticed I think im hearing an feeling a lil spit back up through the bodies, I checked the filters an they appear to be slightly singed, mr ducati dealer told me its not uncommon and a characteristic but I could book it in if I wanted it checked out, is this normal or a good indication theres something wrong ? any known faults I can check ? sure ill have lots and lots of other questions, any help advice appreciated if anybody in Hampshire fancies a cuppa tea an chat bikes feel free to shout
they can run hot coupled with the spitting could be a fuelling timing potential issue...personally on ce you have checked it out and are happy with the service work i would get it checked/set on a dyno...
You’ll need a 998 manual. The engine is different in the 998 it’s the first of the testasretta line Running gear and chassis are same / similar between the two models
This link mght be of some use, http://www.ducati.com/cms-web/upl/d...02.pdf?forceContentDispositionAttachment=true Andy
Ah, I'm going mad - my cable kit on the 998 uses the 999 engine earth so goes to the opposite side of the engine - that's where I got muddled
Check out online when they should kick in and then simply run it up to that temp and see whether they do or not. Simples. Perhaps an obvious thing but presumably it has the correct coolant in there?
Fish, if its any help I've attached a photo of what your wiring should look like in the picture you have poste d.
