1198 New Wheels ??

  1. hi chaps ive been thinking of changing the wheels on my stock 1198 to sharpen up the steering, i belive changing the wheels is the way to go. but not sure what to go with?? carbon bst are amazing but not sure on the roads with all the pot holes around here, so looking at forged alloy or magnesium alloy, its 99% road bike with the very odd track day. any info be great cheers

  2. BST are the pinnacle of lightness and totally agree with the worry re potholes etc.

I went for OZ Piega lightweight wheels in black for the 1198SP I had and then fitted a spacer kit to fit to the Panigale as the front on the 1199 is wider track than 1*98 series

The other alternative are the 1*98S wheels as they are Marchesini Forged aluminium. These turn up on fleabay quite often so keep your eyes open there.

  3. actually theres a set of 1198s wheels on the bay, how much lighter are they??

  4. 1098S wheels will go on wont they?

  10. I've just bought some marchesini wheels of a 1098 tricolore and they weigh,

    3.1 kgs front
    3.5 kgs rear

I'm assuming these are the same as the black forged rims on the 'S' other than the colour. My plan is to swap these with the black rims in my 1098S so I'll have a set of black 'S' rims in the same design for sale shortly.

  11. Know a few who have carbon and never heard of an issue. Look the dogs and lighter than air.

  12. BIG M could be interseted in the black wheels bud, need to find out the weight differnce in them to the standard enkei rims on the 1198, if there not alot in it might pay to go after market or even bite the bullit and go carbon as bradders said.

  13. Different bike but my mate has the BST Carbons on his 675 Daytona and hasn't got a bad word to say about them. He also bought them 2nd hand a few years ago and has run them track and road with no probs. @arthurbikemad has carbons on his 848

  14. If I were spinning 2k at some new rims it would be carbon. Anything else is like paying 2k for a hooker celeb lookalike and Susan Boyle turns up

  15. I bought BST's for my 749R brand new back in 2005.

10k miles later, they still look new and I've ridden some horrendously potholed roads!! Can't go wrong with BST!

If I could find a used set for the Multi, I'd be all over them!

  16. I run carbon BSTs on my D16 and have no concerns after 10,000 miles road and track over 2 years. I also have carbon Dymags on my 990 Superduke and my 996SPS which have done about the same mileage between them. IMHO - go with the carbon.

  17. Had my BSTs since 2008 as Fmonkey said, love them, wheelies or whatever, I treat them like OEM, amazing performance!

Also have some OZs and Galespeed, also great wheels!
