Hi guys, I am a ducati newbee and have just bought an 09 1198 with termis/chip/filter and oberon clutch conversion. Just have a few questions so apologies if these are stupid/asked before. I have had a few jap inline 4,s (gixxer/zx6/r1) and two aprilia milles so not a bike virgin. 1) A local dealer is offering the DDA chip for £90 rather than the £270(?) RRP so are these worth having ie do I need to know how much throttle and in what gear I nip to my dads in? 2) I kept the milles on an optimate when not in use so presume these are the same as the big v twin needs a good battery to turn it over 3) 80 miles from a tank (to light) is this about right during normal use ie <7-8k revs 4) The ride height has been lowered from new so what is the normal ride height ie distance from the standard mudguard holder or similar to the ground and how many lines show on the front forks (not preload lines, the ones on the fork tubes themselves) mine is on the 5th line. 5) Where do I get a workshop manual as I need the torque settings for usual things like brake caliper bolts, front wheel, fork pinch bolts, rear wheel, eccentric adjuster to alter chain etc so I can remove wheels for cleaning etc. 6) Where do I get a c spanner for the wheel adjuster 7) Anybody use the rear wheel/front wheel tools that are for sale on ebay etc? I have also fitted the mirror extenders as I do like to know how many police cars are following me ! Thanks guys/gals. Any other useful quick tips / tricks ?
C spanner on eBay or just use a flat blade through the sprocket as for the rear wheels sockets that do the front and rear on eBay are crap you would be better off ordering a 55mm 12 sided socket for about £20
I can answer a few I think 1) DDA nice to have but I never use it, might come in useful for track use with a laptop at the track but otherwise it's agimmick IMO 2) Optimate all the way 3) Sounds about right 80 miles to the fuel light, think you can squeeze another 20 miles if you feather it along, or you could buy the bigger tank at much cost 4) No idea what is standard, sure someone else can tell you 5) The manuals are available on-line, I'm sure there's a thread with the details on here somewhere 6) Wasn't there one in the toolkit? 7) Not sure what tools you are refering to, I assume the dual sockets you can buy, they work but the torque for the back wheel usually ends up beating the socket up, best invest in a pukka socket, they're good for throwing under your seat in case of emergencies Too many tips to discuss..
DDA well I've never used mine so that all depends if you wanna spend £90 on something your never use that's if you can get it to work
1) No idea 2) I would. I do the same 3) 80 - 100 miles seems the norm 4) No idea, but mine's been lowered too so I could reach the ground with my feet flat 5) Let me google that for you 6) Let me google that for you 7) I'm sure somebody must HTH
