Hi all Having guested on this site for several months and reading some interesting posts, I thought it was about time I became a newbie. A bit of my biking history. I've been riding bikes since the 70's, all Jap bikes and one special GS1000 with a full Yoshi motor, I also raced in the 80's & 90's on TZ's and restored a couple of Honda 400 4s, riding one of them 130 miles per day to work in all weathers and it never let me down once. I had a couple of mates that used to ride Darma's and Hailwood rep's and said to myself I'll have a Ducati one day. I loved the 916 so in Jan 2001 I had a couple of days off, I dropped the missus off at work and went off to a dealer in Exeter, there were 7 or 8 ducati 748's, 916's and Foggy reps some good some not so, they laughed at me when I enquired about insurance for a 916, but then I saw, all on her own in the corner under spotlights was a 1999 748 SPS with 2500 on the clock at £6995, I thought that's mine, so put down a deposit and picked her up the following week. Having not ridden for a couple of years, I came out of the showroom in front of loads of onlookers and stalled it DOH!!!! (could have crawled under a rock). I took it gingerly through Exeter until I got to the A30, and as I passed the missus in the car she said she could see the grin on my face a mile away. Well from that day to this she never ceases to amaze ( the bike not the missus). I get back from a run with tingling fingers & toes but still with a big grin on my face. Here's what makes me smile every time.
Hi Mellow Y....a warm welcome. Please join our westcountry community group as I will contacting people for meets and rides next year. Nice sps, do you ride this time of year? BTW my 400/4 let me down when I use to commute, coil problem if I remember correctly some 36 yrs ago now....ouch! didn't realise it was that long ago! Great bike tho, mine was a blue one HTK606P I believe! I ride a Multi now and live in Cornwall near Saltash, come say hello any time. Cheers vj
Hi All Thanks for the warm welcome, are there many Ducati's in Cornwall as, if and when I do go out I don't see many, I tend to stick to North Cornwall as I like the A39 up to Barnstable, good winding roads, or Glynn Valley to Liskeard up to Callington on to Launceston and back across to Camelford. I stick to sunny/dry days - I'm only out in the rain if it chucks down while I'm out so don't have much choice then. Kev -I live near Camelford where abouts are you. VJ60 - I'll keep an eye on the community group for ride outs. By the way I got it wrong about the 400/4 it didn't let me down, it let the missus down, when she ran out of fuel in the snow, forgot to turn the tap from reserve when she filled up, luckily she was at the top of a hill and coasted to the garage. Mine was a blue one too. Cheers
