Hi boys...my name is Lorenzo, I'm 31 years old I'm from Italy and I leave near Bologna I want to buy1098s and I want to know new people around the world that own it and I hope to improve my English with you. After a bad incident I've never used the motorcycle..because it has broken in two pieces but last year I bought a piaggio Beverly 500 but scooter isn't the same that motorcycle. Before it I've owned Triumph Street Triple and Suzuki GSXR 1000. Can you tell me how to ride this bike? (1098s) is it better 1098s or streetfighter 848 for use every day? Bye.. I'm sorry for my English
There are many helpful people on the forum who know the 1098s and streetfighter 848 and will be able to advise you. Don't worry about your English - it's better than my Italian!
Morning Lorenzo, Don't worry about your english, it's fine. Sorry I know jack about 1098s, but someone will. Welcome, Cheers Gaz
Hi Lorenzo I own a 1098S, its pretty much a pure sports bike and is not all that happy in traffic. As an everyday bike for a commute it may not be ideal if you do a lot of city travel. On the open road its a great machine lots of torque and handles really well. I'm not sure if you are buying one or own one already. The early bikes had recalls for the rear cush drive plate (on the rear wheel sprocket) and a modified heat shield to the regulator rectifier. The early radiators have a weak point near one of the mounting points and its not uncommon for them to fail, so if you see any steam or water rising at the top of the radiator then its probably that and it means a new radiator. In cold weather particularly they all suffer from misting lights and dash, its normal and is more of an irritation than a defect. The modifications I would definitely recommend are a heavier set of battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter motor and battery to ground leads, the original leads are too thin and over time may cause slow starting in the longer term. The headlights are not very good, if doing a lot of night riding I would upgrade to HID, but I don't know the rules in Italy. Remember the modern Ducati curse belts every 2 years pushes the service cost up, but most modern Ducatis are the same (apart from the Panigale) Overall great machine with loads of character, I love mine. Like every bike try to get a test ride before you buy Ducatis are very different from any Japanese bike. Handling the bike is rock solid once the suspension is sorted, they come from the factory rock hard and may bounce you clean out the saddle on bumps if not adjusted. Just get a suspension man to adjust them for you and you will love it. As far as riding I find that when I move around the bike behaves best, there is nothing to fear from it if you treat with respect and have ridden large cc bikes in the past (which you have). Nice to see you here John
Hi John nice to meet you. I'd use the motorcycle to commute to work and for few laps on the near mountains. Now I have got a scooter (I know it's not the same thing) and along my way I haven't any traffics lights because I live at 50km to the city. I work at 7km from my house. I know that 1098s isn't a motorcycle for all days but I love it However I do just 5000 km during the year and from April to October because here there is a lot of fog and ice on the road. If I'll buy 1098s I'll try it How much is 1098s in UK? In Italy the medium price is about 8000€ and some of these are with special parts.
Hi Lorenzo Not sure on the current price of them. I've had mine from new and have no intentions of selling it. It sounds like you could use and enjoy the bike fine then for a commute as you have no traffic lights. I don't do so many miles on mine either I use it nearly exclusively for fun in the summer. I've not ridden the streetfighter so I can't comment on it (I like my bikes with fairings). As for the Bologna area I know it a bit, I used to do a lot of power station work and stayed in Mantua either flying in to Verona or Bologna. You don't need to tell me about the winters, its as cold there as here in Scotland and the fogs are the most viscous I have ever come across. I do wish we got your summer weather here its glorious there in the summer. Good luck then if you need any more information post away there are lot on here more expert than me. Its a great forum John
