Newbie In The Peak District

  1. Assuming the invitation to introduce myself means:-
Lifelong biker who is now fulfilling the belief you should own at least one Ducati at some point in your career.
I’ve always ridden road bikes together with some off-roading experience before they closed most of my local trails.
Following a spill on a Fireblade some 15 years ago the insurance company lent me a Honda VTR to go to the IOM GP. I then bought an Aprilia RSV and have had nothing but twins since. 3 BMW GS’s, an R1200S (interesting to say the least as it dropped a valve on the 1st ride and totalled the engine) and I still have a Tuono Factory 1000.
I sold the last GSA in November and embarked on the usual, BMW, v’s KTM, v’s Ducati research which lead me to ordering a Multistrada from Tony at SMC Sheffield. (highly recommended)
I live in the Hope Valley – Peak District so I’m lucky to have some nice roads on my door step and I try to get away north for a few overnight trip or two when possible. I very much like the roads in Northern Spain & the Picos mountains and am very experienced at getting wet in the Highlands - going back to the IOM for the Bike Festival in August this year.

  7. I'm local to you in Rotherham. Tony at SMC is a top, top man. Not been in ages. Give me a shout if you want to get out. I mainly head for the Peaks when I ride. Welcome.

  8. Welcome from Bakewell.
    Steve

  9. A big welcome from York :Angelic:

  10. Hello and welcome into the mad house Julian

Have you got your Ducati in the fastest colour :)

  11. Thanks for all the replies.
My 1st ever job was in Rotherham - London Scandinavian Metals. I don't go there so much since selling the BMW's.
I went to school in Bakewell many years ago and worked there for almost 30 years up at the station estate until they closed the office. I now work in a shed in the garden.
I don't get my new bike until March so I'm not technically a Ducati owner yet - it will be red when it arrives - was there an alternative ?

  14. I guess you may have known Martin Nelson, Peter Brunt or Brads. Maybe even Chris Jones ?
I work for Forsheda - formerly of Unit 4 Station Road.

  15. Did Forsheda do o rings and oil seals?
Martin Nelson the joiner and motorbike nut.
    Steve

  16. I'm Chesterfield based.

Keep looking at getting a wr250 but everyone tells me there isn't anywhere to ride now.

  17. Yes we did.
That's Martin - I used to go and see him fighting a Jota around the production racing circuits many moons ago.

  18. I know Martin very well as I am a joiner also, I had a few o rings for my lorry at different times from Forsheda.

  19. Hi and welcome. Just seen your post. I live in Chesterfield. Went to college with a biker named Martin Townsend ( I think thats his name ) lived in Hope on the main road Castleton end of the village. Wondered if you knew him?

  20. The name doesn't ring a bell although I used to live in Castleton for >10 years so I should have seen him at some point.
