Newbie Looking To Fulfill Teenage Dream.

  1. Afternoon all.

I've been riding for a good few years, but always toward the budget end of biking, SV1000 pre-VTEC VFR800, that sort of thing.

I'm about to hit the big 4-0, and this happens to coincide with me doing a particularly well paid bit of extra work. After a new car and some DIY, there's enough left for a new bike. I've decided that I'm finally going to buy (one of) the bikes of my teenage dreams. So it's either a 748 or an MV f4. I've sat on but never ridden a 748, but spent a few days on a friend's F4, which was spectacular.

Most of my riding is unfortunately a commute into London, which I know that these bikes are less than ideal for. But sod it, this is a 20 year itch which has to be scratched.

  2. welcome Dave and good luck :)

  3. What is it with people being called Dave around here? is there a "League of Gentlemen" thing I should know about? A local forum, for local people....

  4. welcome! have replied your message about my bike for sale :)
the 748/916 is a life experience thing, not everyone gets them, but if you do, you will love it.

  5. Hi ive had a fair few performance bikes now, OIRO 30. Looking at your previous rides. I think you may be disappointed with the performance of a 748. Can your budget stretch to a 996?

  6. It could, but to be honest, I've kind of done the whole warp speed riding thing, and now I've got two young kids I want to slow down, just a bit.

So the relative lack of grunt in a 748 doesn't really bother me.

  7. Fair enough with you on that I have 2 youngsters also. Think you need to get yourself a test ride. Think the 749/999 are good value for money now days if you can stomach the looks that is

  8. The head says the 749 is a better bike for the money, but I didn't have a picture of one on my wall.....

  9. Good point!

  10. Not that I'm a hater. I think the 999/749 looks perfectly decent, and time has aged it's looks well. But I've never lain in the bath daydreaming about riding one down a nice sweeping B road on a warm summers day.

  11. Try a 999, you'll love it.
Comfy riding position, supple suspension, easy handling, grunt that doesn't need high revs to access and timeless looks that just seem to get better as everything else catches up ;)

  12. time to grow up mate,,, 749 / 999 :grinning:

  13. what you want is a mint white 1198!!

  14. Thought this thread was going to be about a nice 19 year old Wimmin :Finger:

  15. If you're offering it for the same price as a 748 S/SP/SPS, then I may consider it. ;)

  16. Only fools and horses...

  17. If you commute on an F4, respect. :Wideyed: Mine used to hurt me lost looking at it.

What does you bed look like? A bit like this?.........

  18. I would be doing a bit of commuting on it, yes. But I've put in my stint of all year riding (abandoning bike due to a blizzard etc) and nowadays if it looks like rain, or it's a bit chilly, I'll get the train. So my commuting days will be probably about 50 a year.

As I said, I've not been on a 748, but did spend a few full days on a mate's F4 and I didn't actually find it that bad. Maybe I've got a weird physiology, but I find a race crouch more comfy than sitting up on a big BMW.

  19. its in the bike sale section, have a look :upyeah:

  20. Blimey, a lot of bike for ya dollar. Unfortunately, even at £7,500 it's about £1,500 over my budget.
