Newbie Making Contact

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Robin Reliant, Sep 8, 2019.

  1. Hello All Readers,
I joined the forum yesterday and I am just doing a quick intro.
I am new to Ducati after 57 years of riding other bikes from Cubs to Goldwings.
I bought a new Multistrada 950 in May and so far have done 4000+ miles. The good bits are really good and I enjoy riding it but I really am surprised how rough and ready everything else Ducati is!
My customer service experience from the dealer was no better than average, contact via the web to Italy was a waste of time and of course the Silverstone operation don't want to know (anything)!
The handbook is rubbish, no proper alphabetical index even, with much of the information contained applying to the standard 950, not the S model. Examples like the incorrect instructions for removing the seat to the more complicated issues like the wrong information for programming the various computer controlled settings, or even simply on how to align the headlamps, do not give great confidence in anything else that is written.
I had finally bought a Ducati because of the company becoming part of the Audi Group. Certainly the build quality is much more impressive than before but the other parts of ownership are sadly lacking. Why can't Ducati issue a ownership/warranty card with vehicle identification details like the rest of the VAG automotive Group so that getting help and support is easy.
And...why should they recommend that the Dealer adjust my chain every 750 miles, why do they make adjusting it dependant on a specialist and expensive hub-nut socket, why don't they publish the correct torque figure for the ridiculously tight setting that is required? Why do they say that the side-stand is only for temporary use (when you have to pay extra to get one)?
Finally, before I get drummed out of the Forum having had my Ducati badges cut off in public, how can my new bike, built, and some might have thought quality checked by Ducati, Pre-delivery checked by my Dealer and then first serviced (£260) by the same dealer, leave me stuck on my first night ride having to limp home riding at 20 mph on strange roads for 50 miles because the headlight dip was lighting only tree tops?
The reason I joined is because the forum have already given me information on how to adjust my headlights. Thank you so much!
I am a 73 year old miserable git (as you can tell) living in Somerset

There was a chap once who bought a brand new ducati and never had a fault with it for years, worried this might be found out by other ducati riders and owners , Ducati took a hit out on him. No one has seen him since or the fabled reliable Ducati :D
