Hello, Forum. First post here, just about finding my way around. I have just become the very proud owner of a Multistrada 1198 ST (pictured) (2015), and would like a spare red key. Where is the best place in the UK to get one made - I want one with the transponder chip, and possibly another spare so I can keep the expensive flip key safe in my inside pocket at the garage. I've done the usual eBay and Amazon crawl but they are all chipless and in China. Thanks
Greetings Tim. Don't know about the keys but Kudos for squeezing a stealth like bin in the background, great first post IMO Lovely bike btw
Welcome to the forum Tim Why the spare red key ? Most folk just keep that in the Ducati folder with manuals etc, spare fob I can kinda understand, but the red one ?? Anyhoo, welcome
The plan was to keep the fancy key in my pocket and use a red one for un-locking petrol, panniers and top box - maybe I am being a bit paranoid about losing the flip key
Welcome, please join the map linked below, we've closing in on 400 icons. You can get the big black (semi-waterproof) transponder from a dealership. They will need your bikes details to add the correct digital signal, give one a phone call to ask about requirements. Then you take it to a good key cutter with the little red key for the flip out part to be cut. Don't think you can get a spare little red-key. You should also have been given a code to use in the pin override system. Near top yoke under plastic panel. https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1768775
JohnV beat me to it, but yes, keyless fuel cap seems the way, or just a normal key cut to fit your fuel cap, not the posh expensive chipped red one, but take your flip key to a regular key cutter, and just have a normal metal key cut
The red key is the same as the other keys except it has the master code number and it's, er, red. If you can get another blank key then any decent locksmith should be able to copy it for you. Be warned that Ducati will either not supply a blank red key, or will royally shaft you if they do. Look on ebay for a cheap alternative (it is a spare after all!) and get that and take it somewhere to be copied (including the chip id inside). BUT - if you want my advice? Don't take your red key anywhere. Ever. EVER! Put it somewhere safe, with the bike documents, and leave it there. DO NOT TOUCH IT! You shouldn't use your red key at all unless reprogramming the bike keys (RTFM!!) so you really shouldn't take it anywhere. At all. Ever. I can't stress that enough!
