Newbie Questions

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Helmut Sassenfeld, Nov 9, 2018.

  1. Sorry to be so lame but I'm a newbie with some questions. If I have something to sell, ie, barely used Ohlins forks and triple tree to fit a 996 and currently listed on Ebay, where do I post this? I couldn't find a for sale forum.
    Also I'm curious if anyone has been pleased with any particular manufacturer of the incredibly cheap chinese bodywork you can find on Amazon? I want to get a set to use on my 1098 for track days. You can get a full set for virtually the price of one OEM panel. Crazy cheap and does it look it?
    Thanks for any advice

  3. someone was always gonna say that

    Welcome and enjoy! I cannot comment on the Chinese plastics from personal experience but hold the view that you generally get what you pay for. Of course for track use that may be OK. There is some decent Chinese stuff available, but not at bargain basement prices.

  4. Welcome aboard the forum:upyeah:i think the clue is in the word "Cheap"for the looks:thinkingface:

  5. Welcome Helmut. Subscribe and I’m sure you’ll sell them on here. If they’d fit a 748 I might even be interested myself. :)

  6. Welcome Dude :cool::upyeah:

  7. Thank you all for the welcome and the thoughts on aftermarket body work. I'll browse the forum more and see if anyone has actually purchased any of this bodywork and was pleased with the manufacturer. I think the general rule of you get what you pay for no longer is so universal in a world where some countries work for less and need less money to live. After all we (in the US) buy our government and defense electronics from the Chinese (crazy stupid for reasons other than cost in my opinion), our cellphones etc and seem happy with the product.
    With respect to the comments on my first name. Several decades ago I first met my wife to be, a fine young English rose visiting America after years in japan. At the time I had just fallen in love with motorbikes and drove a little Honda CB 175 everywhere as fast as I could. I was always on a motorcycle or had a helmet in hand. When introduced, she didn't believe Helmut (invariably pronounced helmet in America) was my name and thought it was some stupid nickname. It was a rough start (not to mention I initially thought she was Japanese and didn't speak English (another story), but I persevered and eventually got her on the back, of the bike that is!
    I've had a lot of bikes over the years but Ducati's were always the prize in my eyes because I always wanted the best handling bike and the fact that they looked drop dead gorgeous just turned up the volume on their Siren's song. I had the great privilege to race a 996 and 748R for a few years with the local club. But I also enjoyed other makes especially -you won't believe it- my Goldwing. I toured the west with my wife several times. No other bike can you scrape the pegs for miles of mountain twisties and have your wife asleep in the lounge chair behind you, not to mention 14 hours in the saddle -try those tricks on your favorite Duc and you could well end up a cripple and divorced!
    Cheers all

  10. Yes, will subscribe to sell next time -just learned the rule with my first post.
    Here is a picture of my ride with new Ducabike clutch cover. I quite like the cover but thinking it might be better if I'd chosen something less flash like black

  11. PS 1098 also has corse full race 54mm exhaust and race ignition with a power commander giving it a totally unusable street rear wheel HP of 160. But still very fun in albeit short bursts

  12. nice bike!!
