I've a MY14 1199. I find my seat v slippy and keep crushing my knob on the tank. I've taken the seat off and the label on the underside says it's an 1199R seat. I've also googled the code on the bottom and indeed it brings up an 1199R seat. I've read various forums and from what I gather the 1199R seat is the same profile as standard but with the Ducati Performance race seat covering. I've also read that this seat is now the standard seat on all MY14 899 and 1199's across the range (with the exception of the SL) - whether this is true or not, who knows? My problem is that I still find it slippery. The angle of the seat also contributes to the forward sliding and knob crushing. I've seen photos on other forums of other seats and someone has indeed photographed the race seat and the comfort seat side by side. The race seat and comfort seat definitely have a higher profile (I'm probably telling you what you already know) (the shape of both is different) and the race seat does indeed appear to have the same covering as that on mine - a sort of neoprene covering. (photo's attached). Would anyone know definitely whether this is the grippiest material available from Ducati? Is there is a seat available with a higher profile at the front that would stop the forward sliding without adding height to the seat? Also, has anyone had any dramas with the screw holding the seat in place? Doesn't look too meaty to me? Thanks.
got the comfort seat no problems at all ,cost about 150 ish about an inch higher and very grippy no crushed nuts so jobs a goodun boss,
the covering I would say std seat was a pain in the arse literally, I can go all day on comfort seat its the ducati one mate , but its also softer so suppose you sit in it a bit so guess that helps as well
Ok cheers. I must get a try on one if I can. Between the rear bucking on rough roads and the seat / pegs being slippery I'm struggling a bit.
yep know what you mean ive changed my seat,,, had suspension reworked to soften it,, and bought some grippier pegs of this forum off a 1098r they work and look ok ,,,
I must admit I have trouble understanding why a lot of people find a "slippy" seat a problem, unless of course you don't ride smoothly and you're forever grabbing a handful of brakes when (IMO) you should be anticipating when to brake. That's not to say I don't sometimes bang my clackers on the tank, because I do, but not enough for it to be an issue. I use the slippiness of the seat to move around the bike, when I need to.
I have a DP Comfort seat, the standard was just too frigging hard, the DP comfort seat is slightly higher by very much more comfortable. The seat fixing screw is a concern that I have, as it is so small and easily cross threaded.
my dealer took the top of my seat screw, I tapped the hole out to 6mm and put a proper hex bolt in worth doing,
I got the DP comfort seat, it is a bit higher. Does not sound much 20mm or 25mm but it does make a big difference, did not like it to start with as I could not get on with the extra height. But now its fine, just took a bit of getting used too, would highly recommend one.
I have used these guys beforend can recommend HOME I had to send my seat off and they fitted gel pads Maybe worth a shout if you don't want the additional height of the DP comfort.
I might be a bit late for this thread, but I had the same problem with the slippy seat, but the performance and comfort seat, though much grippier, were both too tall for me. In the end, I bought the standard seat that ships with the 899. It's so much more comfortable, raised at the front to stop you crashing into the tank, grippier and only adds a little to the height. The pic shows my bike with the 899 seat, next to my friends (on the left) with the comfort seat...note the different amount of padding. I think it was around £130.00? but money well spent.
Some interesting replies, thanks. I've yet to get back to a dealer to compare my seat with a few others. I'll reserve judgement until I see (hopefully try one) however I don't like the thought of the comfort seat / race seat pitching any more weight onto my wrists (leg room for me not too bad atm) and so I think at the moment an aftermarket re-cover on another standard seat if I can get one is an option. I don't wish to do it to mine incase it does indeed turn out to be covered with ducati's grippiest covering. Someone here has put me the way of a company that can do it in alcantara so I may try that. The shot of the 899 seat is interesting thanks S1VWL as it does appear raised at the front and a different shape to mine. Can I ask when you bought it please and what the codes are underneath the seat if it's not too much of a pain in the arse? (pun intended). I read that the 899 and all Panigales made this year had the same seat of the 1199R which is the one that mine has come with however I'm not sure this is correct and in any case the seat you have really does look a different profile to mine? Many thanks.
Sorry, but I'm away on leave at the moment, so can't get the code. I bought it about 6 months ago from a dealer after looking at all the options available. it's definitely wasn't the same as the 1199r seat at the time and was a listed part on the dealer's computer.
Many thanks, Yes it does and it will do. Definitely not the 1199R seat then so what I've read / been advised regarding the 1199R seats being standard issue for '14 doesn't seem correct. Right, I need to get to the dealers and take a look at one and that at least seems to give me another option. Many thanks.
the comfort seat puts you an inch higher that's all so theres not that much more weight on your wrists ,best thing is just buy one there only 150 ish and try if you don't like sell on you prob get 100 back ,
