Newbie to Ducati - Bought a 2012 Multi

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Moocow, Mar 10, 2014.

  1. Hello!
Been lurking on here all weekend, researching addons, problems, praise etc.
Great forum and helped me make the decision to pull the trigger.

Snagged a white 2012 Multi S Touring model, 2k on the clocks at Riders at the weekend. Was a long day, trying to decide on a bike to buy with not much of a clue other than I wanted something upright like my Versys (which I am trading in against the Ducati), with more power and better handling, but once I saw it I had to have one!

A pair of really untidy examples at Fowlers and a pretty uninterested salesman led me to go elsewhere, plus he knew nothing about the bike (pretty important IMO considering the technical aspects of the MS!), so a main dealer was the order of the day. Probably the warm weather as the showroom full of people not buying bikes led to the lack of interest due to "tyre kickers" but who knows.

Riders (Bristol) once again gave a nice service, no pressure and a cup of tea, now my third purchase from them since 2008. Few quid off, decent trade in price and deal was done.

Can't wait to get my hands on it now! Should be ready in about a week.

  2. how do.

  3. Welcome to the fold. I have had two Multistradas from Riders and several Harley's, always found them very good during the deal and good after sales service.
You will really enjoy your new bike, never heard anybody not like their Ducati.

  4. Welcome to the family!

  5. Congratulations on a great choice of bike. You are sure to love it!

  6. Welcome in mate, i got my new multi from bristol riders as well.:upyeah:

  7. Well done Moocow! Your 1st Ducati and you bought the best one :upyeah:

  8. Seemed the obvious choice really, though I could have bought two bikes for the price I paid :D
Hopefully it will do it all as all the reviews seem to be telling me, got plans for a few good tours too for the first time ever.

  9. Well done pal. My best advice coming from Versy's. Start in touring and get used to it first. Sport mode only after a few hours#shoulders removed from sockets!!!

  10. Welcome. To paraphrase Kirky your first Ducati and you bought NEARLY the best one.

  11. Welcome to here Moocow and congrats on the purchase. :upyeah: I came across from a Kwak (ZX10) and have loved every minute on the Mutley. Went to Austria from Ireland last year and had an absolute ball - the bike does everything you need and more.

You'll need a helmet one size up to cope with the grin you're going to have.....

    All the best, Mark H

  12. +1  ....and welcome to the forum - put yourself on the map: Multistrada Owners Maps ;-)
....and enter your location and bike details in your Profile :D

    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/UK.MTS1200.Owners ;-)

....but you've got the equivalent of 4 bikes!......sport, touring, urban and enduro modes

  13. Done and done ;)

Been looking at insurance. That is an odd game. Got about a month to run on current policy so going to have to upgrade mid-term as they put it. But running quotes through confused there seems to be no discount at all to be had with any security of any type - not sure it's worth the hassle of flat batteries and the temperamental nature of most bike alarms I have had before. Only thing that made a difference was taking it out of the garage it will be in, but still be chucking a ground anchor cemented in just in case, thing is a garage not attached to the property they are free to work on the bike for hours with access to light and power (not to mention any tools I have in there) in relative privacy.
I guess I am just too old now to get discounts worth mentioning with plenty of NCB under your belt. One of the good things I guess of being older :D

  14. Welcome - Try Ducati insurance for a quote, they were pretty good for me the first couple of years I had mine. I did a comparison a while ago and adding an approved chain, alarm etc actually saved only a very few £'s (and if it's not attached one day and the bike is stolen then they don't pay out). Garage, age of rider (NCB) and location are the main drivers of quotes.

  15. Yeah, will do come renewal, problem I have at the minute is I am 2 months from another years NCB (bringing me to 7) so have to really stick with who I am with, not worth cancelling as an extra years NCB is worth more overall.
Will cost me about £45 for those two months (most of which is a sodding admin charge as per usual), so thinking it's an extra £130-£150 a year which is around the same as the quotes I have had so far anyway (£210 - £240 for the year)
Probably do my usual adding of a Datatag kit, while it doesn't reduce the premium any more like it used to a few years back, anything that makes it even slightly less attractive to being knicked is worthwhile IMO. It's going to be either in my garage at home, or secure parking when at work anyway most days.

  16. I priced up putting a tracker on one of my bikes, but it made no difference to the insurance quotes I got, which makes very little sense to my mind?

  17. Yeah mine neither, only benefits the insurance company anyway really. They don't have to pay back anything and you get your bike that has had the arse ranted off it or bounced off kerbs etc in the time it was missing, they don't pay anything for "wear and tear" as it will no doubt be classified when you find you have a cracked wheel or a knackered shock as a result further down the line.

  18. Welcome to the Clan, will look out for you in Bristol :)

  19. WOW!
What a bike. Just took the long way home from picking up from Riders earlier. Just such a nice machine to ride, makes my Kawasaki that I traded in look feel like a toy in comparison.
Even on "100 bhp" mode it is breathtaking!
