Newbie with a question

  1. Hi folks,
Well I took the plunge and ordered new 899 before the finance/ Termi offer expired.

Hope I've done the right thing.
Been on a KTM RC8R for the last 2 and a half years. Bike was way faster than me but just love a V twin.
Stock suspension was rock hard as I weigh about 11 stone in full gear.
Question is will the stock suspension on a 899 be sprung too hard?
Anybody resprung or switched shocks? I'm guess it might be too soon for 899's but there might be some 1199 riders out there who have experimented.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Welcome, no idea on the answer but good choice :upyeah:

  3. Thanks mate. Need some reassurance that I've bought the right bike.

  4. They are racing them next year, give it a few months and there will be loads of data out there :)

  5. Hi welcome, send some pics you lucky barsteward, all the best rog

  6. I'm a bit over a stone heavier than you in kit. I had a 1199 ABS.

I had my suspension setup by MD Racing. We knocked a bunch of preload off the rear shock as in stock trim I had basically no rear sag.

Why not spend the 60 quid or whatever it is to get someone to set it up for you? Seems like a small investment compared to what you've just dropped on the bike.

  7. I weight around 13.5 stone and on my 1199 the rear kicks you out the seat. so reckon the 899 might be similar. I went from a RC8r to the Panigale and the difference is night and day...I did like the RC8r but never really gelled with it for some reason.. The Panigale is just in a different league.

Enjoy and yes would agree suspension setup is next on my list

  8. 11.5 stone and 5'10 here, had issues with my 1199 bumping me out of the seat, had my local dealer soften everything up and it's great now, well worth the cost of an hours labour!

  9. Yep its on my shopping list at some point next year I will be getting it done on mine, although I would just like to get some seat time but they way the great weather here is it wont be for some time :frown:

  10. Especially as its up the road

  11. Thanks guys. I guess it's expecting too much for a dealer to set up the sag for a rider when he's only spending £12.5K on a bike.
JHP are down the road as well and are supposed to know something about set up.
Any views on the stock tyres bearing in mind I'm going to want to put some miles on the beauty over the next few weeks?

  12. If you bought new from dealer ask them, its only a few tweaks and some knowledge as a base set up

  13. Never really sure I trust main dealers for stuff like this though. Get the impression they rarely know about set up. Been buying bikes for 40 years and never once did a dealer even offer to tweak suspension settings.

  14. Depends where you are buying it from. Motorapido, WM Snells, JHP, Ducati Manchester, Ducati Wolves to name a few all have race teams coming somewhere from their ranks

  15. And they will never offer to do something for free :upyeah:

  16. Riders in Bristol are supplying. They do race but think the race team might be Bridgewater based.

  17. Spoke to Richard from Louigi today about set up. What a great bloke. He's happy to cast an eye over the bike but says he's not fettled one before but if I'm passing on Sunday drop in for a chat. Service or what?
