Hi All, I've just joined and thinking about buying a 748 or a 848 for my 50th. I've been off bikes for a few years, but keen to get back on the roads for the Spring. Stay upright Craig
Firstly welcome to the madhouse, had a similar dilemma for my 57th, but done the stupid thing and went for a pani v4. Took a while to get used to it. Hope you choose what’s right for you
Glad you found the place Craig, plenty of info re: both bikes on this Forum and others. You mentioned your age so probably swaying slightly toward 848 if you want slightly more comfort, but many more arguments for either bike of course. One thread below:- https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threa...or-848-or-even-996-finally-chose-1098s.29848/
Welcome Craig, i toyed with buying different ducatis for almost 12 months, i'm near 50 too, bought 1 a couple of weeks ago, wish i done it years ago (or maybe not as afaik reliability wasn't a strong point in the past!). lovely bikes full of character, each ride i'm grateful it hasn't broken down lol and it just feels alot more special than other bike makes. do it u won't regret it.
Welcome Craig, for what it's worth a friend of mine had a 748 back in 2000-2001, it was an awesome bike to ride, as I often had a spin on it, that is when it was running, unfortunately it was very unreliable. He did upgrade to an 848 which was much more reliable and a smoother ride too. But I'm sure there's more guys on here with much more experience and may shed more light on them.

Have a 996 SPS, and a 1098R, and had a 916 and a 1198S, the 1198 was a far better ride, mainly because it was newer, if you want classic ( my 916 and 996 were both pretty reliable tbh) go the 748, if you want a better Ducati experience go 848.... Head down below parapet...
