Newby - 2017 Scrambler Desert Sled - Camberley

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by stevetwood, Jan 14, 2021.

  1. Hi from a Sled rider based in Camberley, Surrey - bought my bike from new and use it for pottering around and exploring delightful little back lanes in a 100 mile radius. My son and I bought matching bikes and we meet up when restrictions allow to have a back lane ride out together.

I've not added too many mods, only a set of Barkbusters to help with protection and wind protection and a Rapid Bike Easy from DimSport. I believe has smoothed out the fuelling and added some low-end torque, although it does throw the MIL light occasionally when the outside temperature is cold -below 3 degrees. The MIL light disappears overnight. I have installed a low slung Hepco and Becker protector bars and an Evotech Oil Cooler protection cover.

I find the stock seat one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever ridden but I really enjoy the bike as a proper alternative to my mental 2018 S1000RR. I am trying to grow my off-road riding capabilities but I am petrified of dropping the bike so its off to muddy areas to start with and weighting outside pegs with body movement at low speed to practice making the bike stable.

Looking forward to exploring the forum and gathering useful information on 'how to' for bike repairs and mods etc.

  2. Hi and welcome to the forum. I remember Camberley, an old stamping ground of mine back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Used to work behind the bar at the King’s Head in Frimley Green in ‘72 and ‘73. Andy

  6. Thanks for the welcome. I ride past the Kings Head frequently to ride the infamous Pirbright Bends, now sadly savaged by the local residents and authorities down to a 30/40 mph speed restricted zone.

Here's a bit of trivia - The Old Guildford Road just up from the Kings Head was originally the part of the 1925 Southern Scott Scramble event - its a byway now but you can see old photographs here, I'd love to be able to think I could ride something like that - look at the crowds! No crash helmets and big old coats....

  7. Welcome along Steve
