After loosing my gear lever and finding out I have a Ducati’s Performance parts set up and it costing me an arm and leg to replace I’ve gone and had another mishap. This one was 100% my fault. I’d just left home, looking forward to catching up with my mates as I was running a bit late and was approaching the first roundabout a few minutes into my ride when I felt it. It was like someone tapping my lower back ? I can’t do anything as I’m now committed to going around the roundabout but the tapping stopped half way round. I looked over my shoulder and saw my rear cowl pirouetting across the tarmac. This bike I bought 5 months ago was immaculate, I was pissed off walking back to reclaim my part but unlike my lever at least I could find it. I’d taken it off a few days earlier and simply not put it back on securely. As you can imagine it was scuffed up badly and I decided to get it repaired and resprayed. I considered options but just wanted to put her back as she was. The guys I used did what I thought was a perfect repair and colour match. Reinstalled it properly this time, stood back and gave it a mental thumbs up, all good and I’m happy. Unfortunately that feeling lasted about 3 weeks. I went into my garage and as I walked past my bike my cursory glance over at the bike left me with a noooooo ! The black pad, which was sprayed during the repair had “rejected” the paint. That’s the only way I can describe it. I could flake bits off around the paint imperfections. The red part was fine but the pad was awful. I decided that I didn’t want to chance a further respray being rejected and found this to solve my issue. Hopefully this ends the sorry saga and yes, I’ve got to just take more care !
Thank you. I think it’s passable and serves as a constant reminder to myself of keeping on top of things. My mates think I go over the top looking after my bikes but I’ve been caught out twice now. Embarrassed myself really and had to take a good bit of stick for it. They’re right and I’ve learned a lesson. It’s like I’m kid again and going over everything everyday on my old “torque induction” RD.
its soo easy to do i lost one, and the tool kit, and then the replacement came loose, went back and got it but it was scratched i got a hair band (like a telephone spiral cord thingy) and tie wrapped it on, so if it does come loose it will only hang down it stretches about a metre but springs back to 2 inches
In the last month I have lost a bar end weight and rear brake reservoir cap off my 1299 as it slowly tries to shake itself apart I meticulously torque, loctite and paint mark every nut and bolt I touch on my bike as these big old v twins are just designed to loosen stuff but not the bolts you do want to undo of course, those are always stuck solid
