Well it's got to be Sir Bradley Wiggins for starters and then there's that Dave bloke from the "Bank of Dave" TV programme, - he's gotta be worth an OBE eventually. What d'ya reckon?
I am truly overwhelmed by le Tour de Bradley, fantastic effort. I've followed the tour loosely now for many many years through Hinault, Big Mig, Armstrong etc and never ever thought or believed that we would one day have a winner. What a final time trial!! What a team effort, admittedly a direct comparison with US Postal, but who cares? We won. Regardless of what happens in the Olympics this in itself IMHO is worthy enough to warrant a knighthood in itself, and if he doesn't win Sports Personality of the Year as well in December on the back of this alone, then there is something wrong! A magnificent achievement.
agree and as for the "Bank of Dave " dude how long before he gets so big (if he's allowed) that you hear of his staff paying themselves big bonuses.
Gongs seem to be handed out incredibly subjectively. For example, actors often get them: Sir Ralph, Sir Lawrence, Sir Anthony etc etc. Musicians rarely get one. David Gilmour - surely one of the most influential guitar players of the last 40 years, got an MBE (or CBE or OBE) but it was for his charitable work - not for the pleasure he has given millions. You could make the same case for Jimmy Page and umpteen others. I don't mind Elton John getting one - he's been popular and influential. I think that Wiggins has been inspirational. Worth a knighthood? Not sure about that. Then they made Seb Coe a lord - but surely because he was so incredibly Tory. Mind you, if Wiggins did get one, he'd surely be no less deserving than god knows how many other people who have been ennobled.
Did anyone read the story that emerged recently about Madge arranging to be elsewhere on the day that Mick Jagger was Knighted as she couldn't bear to give it to him herself.
Well, Brad has just done it again and wrapped up gold in the time trial making him the winningest British Olympian ever. - (Until tomorrow when Chris Hoy regains top spot by getting his next gold). I'm off to start growing some medal winning sideburns.
Yep. Looking at the Olympics record, I think it has to be a K now. Sporting wise, what more do you want?
Well done wiggy il give him that. However please please do not let it bring out anymore Lycra boys on push bikes.... Or those irritating gits who don't ride on the purpose built cycle path but still ride two abreast the road usually chatting and very very aware of the havoc behind them !
indeed no, despite racking my brains MBE - my bloody efforts OBE - other buggers efforts back on track - nice one Wiggo ,throughly deserves all/any accolades, for his efforts ( and not least those whiskers) how will he top this, TDF next year as well?
