Okay. So my next job to research and complete is the dreaded valve shim clearances. I've done a couple of 20v Yamaha engines in the past with the heads off but I am wanting to do the 749s in the frame. Easy or fookin nightmare? Is there a link to a step by step that I can study? What do you guys do for replacement shims?
I have never attempted the shims myself but I am told some dealers will do a shim exchange, something worth remembering is the accuracy of your own micrometer, measure the size of shim you need with your micrometer then go to the dealer and measure the replacement with the same micrometer not there's as there could be a discrepancy. Some people such as Mr R will have dozens of spares as he works on engines on a regular basis but I can't see the need if you're only working on one bike every few years. Steve
