  1. Hello,

I'am from the Netherlands and currently living in the Salisbury area.

I'd like to make some nice routes for my satnav (basecamp) but I'm not well known which roads to take, off course I will avoid the M roads, but which one do you drive the most A roads/B roads?

Also in august I have some friends visiting for 3 days and I'd like to make a nice route to the south-west via the coast, any tips?

Maybe someone could help setting up some nice route's with nice curve's and scenary over here.

    Gr, Nick

  2. Well there are quite a few routes to choose from.
New Forest is not somewhere I tend to go myself, but if you have time then via the Forest into Lymington en-route to the Isle of Wight is a good day and worth the ferry crossing fee. There are some here that will give some tips on where to go in the Forest.
The most popular in the area i would say is West Bay. If you do this i strongly suggest using the coast road as it has stunning views and good roads.
Myself and friends tend to go from Sandbanks in Poole via the ferry across to Swanage then onto Weymouth via Wareham & Wool & Osmington.
Can't comment North of Salisbury as never ventured that far, But if you are coming from Salisbury then heading to Blandford then left at Six Penny Handly across the Chase into Wimborne is a good ride also.

As mentioned there are many known good routes, but sometimes we just head out and turn where and when we feel is right with no set destination.

Also if you have not been the Poole Quay Bike Nights on Tuesdays are fun, but get there early or you may have a trek from Baiter to the Quay.

Most of all enjoy there is fantastic place here in the south.

  3. drop @Android a line, he knows those roads really well and has some great routes. I personally enjoy the run down towards Dorchester, then north into Wiltshire and on towards costwolds, back south via the 343 (I think that's the road)

  4. oh and unless you want to get to the other side or ride slowly and enjoy a little scenery and wild horses, avoid the new forest.

  5. Well there's a thing ....been riding the woods since I was a spotty boy.....rarely within the limits and only clipped two of them 4 legged things.

Got to choose your riding time better Bradders, weekends and the summer holidays are as you say slow and crowded......now early morning or after work in the week loads of fun and you also need supple (multistrada) suspension.
Don't go out there in the wet either....shit roads matey.

Would be only to happy to help you find your way round Nick drop me a line soon
    Cheers

  6. The risk of face planting a deer on the A32 is bad enough, the thought of wiping out into a cow or fecking great horse doesn't make me any more comfortable

  7. Isn't that what happened a few months ago, biker killed by a horse on the A32?

  8. Welcome / there are often a few of us that ride out from Salisbury - keep an eye on the Hilltop cafe thread , this is a popular venue east of Salisbury . Poole quay on a Tuesday night is a maybe and Hunters Lodge on a Thursday which is wincanton direction - plenty of choices

  9. Riding across the New Forest is not what it used to be unless your into animals. From Southampton you can take the A35 via Lyndhurst to Christchurch. If you are further North up around Salisbury then I prefer the A30 to Shaftesbury, then pasts Guys Marsh prison to Sturminster Newton then the back roads through Piddlehinton etc to Dorchester, pick up the A35 for a short while then turn left at Winterbourne Abbas over the hill to Portesham then along the coast road through Abbotsbury to West Bay.

    Enjoy and ride safe

  10. Once your past West Bay you can ride bits of coast road or the A35 down into Devon as far as Exeter.

  11. Hey guys,

Thx for all the reply's. I'm currently in the Netherlands to pick up the bike and have some family time during the easter weekend. I will take the boat on monday (Calais-Dover) to get the bike home :)

I will be going to the hilltop cafe and will enjoy a ride with some of you guys!

    Cheers,
    Nick
