Nipples

  1. Thought that'd get some attention!

Can anyone tell me the spanner-size required for the bleed nipple on the rear caliper (2011 model)? The reason I ask is that I'm not convinced mine is the original item. The front calipers and clutch needed an 8mm spanner, and the rear (on my bike at least) needed 11mm. It also protrudes more than the others - maybe a couple of mm. When I went to change the fluid over the weekend, I noticed it was weeping slightly. I put this down to not being tightened up properly, but after I'd finished the problem is still evident, and I've tightened it up as much as I dare.

    Cheers

    Gary.

  2. rear caliper on what exactly?

  3. I'm referring to the bleed nipple on the brake caliper for the rear disc.

  4. Should be 11mm. If it's been swapped out, it may be imperial as many hydraulic fittings still are...
If it's still weeping, you may have some dirt on the seat. Take it out and give it a clean. You can also wrap a bit of ptfe tape around the thread to help.

  5. The rear caliper has a larger nipple.

  6. Of course you are, one is not an idiot. I was referring to the bike - make, model and year are crucial details............... sometimes. Neither your initial post nor your profile elicit such information................

  7. Doh! Missed your point - sorry. Duly noted for future reference. I'll update my profile now. Having said that, this is the Multistrada thread, and I did say in my original post that it's a 2011 model. FWIW, it's an S Sport.

    Cheers

    Gary.

  8. All brembo rear calipers have a larger nipple. Nothing abnormal about it :)

  9. Ptfe tape

PTFE - Not a chance at hydraulic pressures here. Might be good on a leaky tap
