First off... A Merry Christmas to all..... Now down to it . Came to start my 05 749s this afternoon & noticed there was no fuel pump prime noise.... So thought Ahh Fuel pump relay... (What a BarSteward to find & get access to). Found the little blighter & unplugged it ( it was a little green ), i then bridged the live term & negative on the fuel pump loom plug & the pump primed & the bike would run.... I then noticed that the dipped beam was not coming on with a cycle of the ignition as it used to !. So i then checked all fuses & all were fine. I then set about finding the head light relay, located this & unplugged it (This was not green) I immediately noticed that the headlight relay had 4 pins & the fuel pump 3 !, but looking at the numbers on there they are infact the same, So 1 terminal has corroded away completely !! I then bridged the live & earth on the Head lamp loom plug, The dipped headlight operated. I then put the head light relay in the Fuel pump relay plug & the fuel pump primed & the bike would run. I put the relay back into the head light loom plug & cycled the ignition but the dipped beam would still not come on (No relay in the fuel pump plug) So...? Is this issue related to the fact that i dont have two functioning relays plugged in at the same time in both the fuel pump plug & the head light plug ? Do i have a semi faulty head light relay ? Which is ok to operate the fuel pump (i think this is unlikely) as i would of thought that the dipped beam would of illuminated without the fuel pump relay being in place !! Many thanks Dean
Where is the best place to purchase one from ? Ebays are all second hand & £8 + Is it best to get a couple from a Fiat or Alfa dealers & how much are they ? Cheers Dean
Hi I got some relays from towzertronics or similar on ebay a year or so ago and they have been fine , hope that helps .
I have one new spare relay you can have, PM me your address and I'll post it off, no charge. I sold my 999 the other day and don't think I'll need it on the 1199 I've ordered.
replace both relays. you can get them from halfords too. different types available but the spec is written on the relay. ducati ones are good quality and latest ones are sealed.
